Hi everyone,
I want to establish a freshmen meeting next year.
Here in Europe a lot of people come out to play ball without any knowledge of the game.
I'd like to make a powerpoint may be with some highlights to show and explain the basic rule of the game as well as a presentation of our team (history, team policies, etc.).
I don't want to put too much info in it so I'm looking for help. Any advice?
I'm sure some of you run that type of meeting.

Give them an overview of your program. Discuss about what you want to achieve and how the players can help you. Show them some big crushing hits and big plays on offense to get them excited about playing.
Rules, Regulations, and Safety of the players (if they aren't familiar with the sport)
Base Offense
Base Defense
Special Teams

I would also add a list of expectations to the presentation. Let the players know exactly what you expect from them and what is approrpriate and not. It doesn't have to be huge, I believe this year I'm giving my guys a list of 6 items.

I would also include the core values of your program....teamwork, integrity, leadership skills, etc. Maybe explain the importance of each and why they are the core of your program. I wouldn't have more than 5 or 6....

A little different approach we had was starting the 9th grade at the end of the 8th grade year with a "lifting camp". We bussed them over for a camp and taught everything about the WR and in doing so laid the foundation for our football season. Now we have amazing 9th grade summer lifting participation and the football stuff all is based in the WR.

One thing I feel is very important to all begining players and parents is proper hydration/nutrition. Get your Athletic Trainer and/or Team Doctor to provide you with current information concerning. I know they're young and resilient, but without proper nutrition and hydration they respective athlete is cutting themselves short in their optimal performance as a player. I feel this is just as important as explaining the X's and O's of the overall program.
