The AD told me I had about $2700 to spend on football equipment (does not include helmet and shoulder pad reconditioning).
I met with the equipment rep on Thursday and the items I chose came to about $3500 so I am about $800 over what the AD said I had.
Should I contact the equipment guy and cut out some items and try to get quote down closer to the $2700 figure or do I simply show it to my AD and let him figure out what to do?
I should also state that the AD is a great guy and has been very supportive of us every step of the way so far (my first year as a head coach).

$800 would be 2 car washes in my neck of woods.
Boosters (could always do a loan if they are reluctant to give you the cash) and fundraise.
I'm jealous you got $2700--that's $2700 more than I get!

Tell the rep that you have multiple quotes and the other guys price is lower, but you would like to establish a long working relationship with his business, and see if you can get that quote down.

Fund raisers are good. You can also go back to your AD with a priotized list of items. Let him know what you need and WHY you need it. Maybe there is some money elsewhere in the budget to help get you the things you "need" as opposed to things you "want".
