I would like to look into making our own "varsity gold" type cards.
I know this has been covered before, but it was not in detail about how to start your cards.
My main thing is where do you buy the cards? I found a few on-line sites, but I always get iffy with buying stuff on-line.
I have a few connections with business's so I know I can put stuff on it.
So where do you buy your cards?
any and all other info would be appreciated

I would contact your local screen printing company or sports supply company. They probably either make them or know of someone who does.

We're doing this this year. Any number of places on-line to get cards. Search on "print plastic card" and you will find quite a few. I didn't find anything local but I didn't try too heroically.
Cards range from $.30-$.55 depending on qty and artwork. The .55 price includes 4-color printing, setup, and design service for qty of 1,000. Lots of models and ideas for layouts to choose from.
We are selling for $10 and look to keep $9.50 or so. Purchase 1,000 cards for $500 (or less) and sell 700-800. Net 6,500-7,500.
One of the moms is doing contacting vendors right now. There is generally room for 12-15 vendors on the back. Shes going through teen food, adult food, adult services for products. Says that shes not finding any resistance to being included. Some vendors have to put the request up the chain.
Lead time is about 2 weeks. Can get it sooner.
Again, I haven't done this but we are doing it this year.

Thanks, when you get your cards could you let me know where you got them from? Also, I am not a head coach. I am not a varsity coach. I am a frosh DC. So I have to ask the HC if we can do this. we meet next week and would like as much info as I can get to show to him. What kind of questions and concerns would you think he would have? I don't want to half ass this and answer "I don't know" to every question

What do you want the funds for? How much up-front cash is needed? How will you get the vendors to participate? What will they need, in terms of documentation, to seal the deal? How many cards do you think you will sell? How much cash do you think you will raise? Is participation required of all the players? How will you handle the cash and accounting (cards and cash)? Will you be having a "cash bag" for the leading sellers? What will you do with leftover cards? What will you be putting on the front of the card?
I'm sure I could come up with more. Anything is easy if you break it up into tiny questions/pieces. Keep asking questions until you can't think of anything else and you will be prepared. Football, life, card sales - break it up until it's in small manageable pieces.

Good news is we done this last year with Varsity Gold. we would run it the same way as we have done every year doing this. The only difference is we will get all the profit and I will have a busier summer. I have the sponsors, We have the numbers based off the previous years of doing this. No matter what, we are doing the cards. a few of the VG guys have started there own cards, but I don't see anything they do worth half or whatever of the sales. So I have the time and a sales background why not do it ourselves....you know?

little cards like credit cards. On the front is your schools mascot or something to do with your football team and most of the time your upcoming schedule. On the back will have a list of business's that have offered to give a discount or something to who ever has the card.
So you go out and get sponsors then print the cards. have your team go out and sell them for like 10 to 20 bucks. Keep the profit. Usually you have rewards for the top player in sales.
I suck at explaining things, but hopefully you get it.

Yeah this is understandable, what kind of discounts do the shops give? Is it like a buy 1 Pizza get 2? Or is it real serious discounts because I could imagine (well in europe football is not so supported as in the US, especially HS) that 20 bucks for a "discount card" would need to have some serious interesting disounts?
The reward thing is like a cookie sale ;D

The company that did it (varsity Gold) had some nice discounts, but they are out of business now. The purchasing factor for these cards in many cases is helping out your football team and not so much the discounts.

Duracard.com is the company I use. They send you a merchant agreement form to sign up the businesses. Talk to your school digital imaging teacher to make an assignment in his class to create some artwork. I ordered 1000 cards for $550 & sell them for $10. It's a great fundraiser.

I think the best part about using a company is that they go out and solicit the business for your..
I cant remember the name of the company.. but them and Varsity Gold had a legal battle.. but..
They do offer you $7 out of the $10 you bring in on the card.. way better than the $5 out of $10 VG was offering..
I will get that name and post it if anyone is interested.
