How many of you do the friday after school dinner? If yes what do you eat?
We are looking at having our kids going to Outback down the road (8 oz grilled chicken, bake potato, salad, rolls...).
Just would like to hear others.....

We eat Chick fil a....two sandwiches fries and a drink....not the healthiest meal but it worked for us...

The moms fix dinner for the team on Friday's. We try to eat something that is pretty healthy and not too heavy. Usually some form of chicken or pasta. We always have veggies and fruit. The kids usually get a power bar on their way out.

We're a private school with no lights (4:00 PM day games) so our pre-game is their regular lunch - although we do have an outstanding dining hall and chef. For road games we will meet after school and have a very nice selection.

This year we will feed our kids on thurs night instead of after school on friday.
On Friday they will eat fruit and poweraide

We do the same thing as jpdaley25. The booster club pays for it, and the moms do the serving (they love it).

On Fridays. We go to the school cafeteria for pre game meal around 3:30pm. They usually get some form of pasta, cup of fruit, small bowl of salad sometimes, a roll or breadstick, and water/gatorade. We will pay the school lunch ladies extra to stay and fix it for us and they love to help the team.

I see everyone saying pasta... sure.. pasta is good for adding carbs for energy.. IF you plan on doing some work on saturday..
Eating pasta a few hours before you play will not benefit you that night..

airraider, I don't think they want the football to benefit them that night, they just want something on the stomach. True, but I think too many people use pasta because.. its something they have heard as being an acceptable form of pregame meal.. to me.. Pasta is too heavy for hours before a game.. pasta has good wholesome benefits.. but you will not get those benefits hours after eating it.. so why fill them up on it? Light is the way to go before game day.. I used to have an HC who would take the team to an all you can eat buffet on long trips.. most would be smart.. but some would completely pig out.. and of course.. would play like crap.. small portions of a good lean chicken cut.. salad.. water.. small portion of bread would be good to get something on the stomach.. but.. do it for the sake of not being hungry.. dont load them down with pasta and sauce..

I completely agree with that.. cheap is good.. We had someone cater one year.. they brought out pasta with huge meatballs and loaded down sauce that was too thick to even go through a slotted spoon.. not what the kids need hours before kick off..

Never,Never,Never let your kids eat turkey before a game you will find your team asleep most of the game and it is a horable site....

I am with the group of doing the dinners on Thursday if your game is on Friday. I remember in my playing days I really didn't eat a lot before games..nerves..whatever. After the game..I was a giant hog. As others have mentioned, there's no physical benefit to eating hours before a game. If your going to put that much time and effort into doing it..I think you'd want to maximize its effect.

We have our moms feed the team on Thursday nights. In the past we only recommended what the kids eat before games on Friday. But now with some long distance games coming up this year we will be leaving before school gets out twice and once right after school. We are looking at fruit (apples, bananas, oranges) and nutra-grain bars with a bottle of gatorade or water right before we get on the bus.

I learned in my Exercise Physiology class that it really depends on what time you eat as to what you eat before a game. Pasta isnt that bad a few hours before the game, as long as people dont make pigs out of themselves. Carbohydrates are the easiest to burn, so its alright to eat, as long as its not too much. The closer to going out on the field, though, the lighter you want to eat. If some people dont have pregame meals, half of a sandwich would be alright (no turkey as mentioned earlier) and nothing with alot of salt. During our 2 a days last year, kids brought beef jerky and ate it during lunch and alot of them cramped up from dehydration from the salt and heat mix.

we eat red meat and beans and bread and salad around 3pm for a 7:30 kickoff. never had any problems with game time cramping or lack of energy

i worked for an old timer way back when...
he let the cheerleaders cook for the boys......
my favorite meal...and we had it 4 times that season....
chili dogs and spaghetti......hahaha
didn't hurt us too bad......we finished 9-2 that year.....

The majority of our games are on Saturday's at 1 or 2PM. We bring the kids in for breakfast @ 9:30AM. Eggs, cereal, pancakes, bananas & granola bars. They can leave with apples/bananas, powerbars & gatorade/vitamin waters for a "lunch snack" to eat later if needed, but most don't eat again before game, except maybe for a piece of fruit. Each varsity kids kicks in $40 and that feeds them all season.
On Friday night games (7pm), we normally do chicken cutlets...no mayo, from a local deli. Sometimes we even play a thursday afternoon game @ 3:30, then it is nothing more than fruit, granola/power bar and gatorade. One year for a friday night game the parents brought in grills, fired'em up and cooked some nice sirloins with salad....that was a treat! Granted the parent in charge was loaded and funded the whole thing.

Here at least one of the area churches fix the kids a spaghetti dinner (salad, rolls, desert and tea) before home games. Away games, the moms fixed sandwiches and the kids have fruit and gatorade with them.

For those that eat on Thursday night aren't you concerned about what your players are eating the day of the game if you don't provide a meal?

True Story here! My dad played at Eastern Kentucky in the late 50s. The pregame was steak and eggs with small baker and butter and warm tea. He went to the HC and said, "Now Coach, I can't play if I am hungry!" The coach said Tiny (he was 6'5" 325# and had a 36" waist) what do you want to eat instead. Coach I would like 2 whole fried chickens. The coach thought he would call his bluff!
Coach called his wife and she went to a restraunt and got 2 whole fried chickens. My dad ate his pregame and then proceeded to knock Johnny Unitus all over the field that day. He got 2 whole fried chickens for pregame, no matter if they were home or away, every week!

I want to say that I'd like two fried chickens too. Most of our pregame meals depend on who is buying. I like it the best when its the Colonel. At one place that I worked, the local olive garden fed us a plate of pasta, salad and breadsticks. The the OLine would go to a buffet and finish the job. Pregame meal there was alway chicken fingers a banana and a cookie.

We took the boys to Golden Corral this past year. They had salad, pizza, spaghetti, chicken, rolls and water to drink. The new boss man says that someone will be making their pre-game meal this year. I guess he is trying to change a few things up since we went 0-11 last year.
