Nothing's better than a game vs. your rival, especially when there's a trophy or jug or...to play for.
Besides playing for pride, wins, etc., do you have an object that gets passed to the winner?

Ours is a relatively new tradition (only established at traveling trophy ~8-9 years ago, although the rivalry is nearly 40 years old) but we have a plague we play for.
Aptos vs Watsonville, the "Black and Blue Bowl" (school colors)

I helped start this one at my old school 8 years ago when our "rival" started a football team. They are the Knights and my old school was the Crusaders. We played for a huge Sword (The Sword of the Spirit). First 7 years we never lost. Went to a new school this year where we battle our rival for the Oar ( they're on the water... ). And at my old school - they lost for the first time.

At my first head coaching job I started 2 travel trophies. One town was down river from us so we played for a canoe paddle. We painted each side of the paddle in school colors and put a school helmet sticker on each side. The game was called "The Battle for the Paddle" The other school district was on the other side of huge hunting reserve and we have Geese all over the place. So I made a 4' long Goose call on a turning lay and painted each end of the goose call in each schools color.

We got the best thing you can get , we got their kids...we almost shut down the team that tried to run us out of the league a few years ago. Every year we beat the livin $hit out of them in front of the entire league,on their own field, because they would schedule the game on the day the league would take pictues at their field for their ID's. Their idea backfired on them, they wanted to showcase the one good team they had, a few years ago ...but the league locked them into that day to play us. This year they decided that a racord of 3-16 , (12 of which were shutout victories) against it's rival down the street was enough...they declined to play us any more.........SLAP!!!!!

In 1959 or something our two schools split from Idaho Falls High. The new school is Skyline High School. There was never a new field built for Skyline High School so for the last 30+ years they have been playing the Emotion Bowl. Who ever wins gets to paint the goal posts the school color. Take a look at this quick documentary and take a gander at our sweet Nike Unis. There is said to be over 5,000 people in attendance every year sometimes more. www.postregister.com/special/Slideshows/EMOBOWL102408/index.php
