I was fortunate to be one of the few people they allowed to visit last week from another college, and I saw it. I still get fired up about that speech. Lets face it most people in his position would not be so well grounded,in everything that he does. He is a very down to earth regualr person who laughs about all the warrior and super man jokes people say to him. I admire him flor that as a lot of people in his position would not act the way he has acted. Like I said I admire him for that and respect him for that. If he was different and very cocky and arrogant I would think otherwise but I had the opportunity to meet him,and he is a great kid, who has the whole world ahead of him,and he will be successful in whatever he decides to do.

Tebow's the man. Why not put the plaque up? Last I checked Florida is undefeated since the speech was made. Tebow is a BIG part of the Gators History. Go ahead and honor him and his speech now. Give you players a reminder of what they accomplished. And I'm a VOLUNTEER fan.

I originally read the title as "Tebow Quote Plague"... I was expecting some Chuck Norris-esque lines, ala "Tim Tebow's dorm room is built from the braziers of conquered women and the tears of decimated opponents" or something like that.
I was thinking maybe wait another year to do it? I mean, hell, if the guy doesn't already own the campus already, this just solidifies the fact. Ah, to be young(er), handsome(r), and one of the greatest to ever play college football... Must be annoying having an entire university throw it's collective panties at you every time you smile. $5 says every time he sneezes, a line forms to wipe his nose.

Personally I think the fact he stood on a big stage and laid it on the line and then follwed through says a ton about him as a person, player and leader and for to place what he said literally in stone for those who follow in his footsteps at Florida is a great thing- it's always good to have tough acts to follow because it inspires others to meet and beat what others have done.

....and I thought I had heard them all

I think its cool. Think about it, usually those things are put up years later to commemorate a legend that has circulated over and over. This is word for word what he said, and everyone knows how the rest of the season went.
I guess I'm just a big pu$$y, but those inspirational things get me jacked up.

It was a great moment that has inspired a team (and many others). But if they had lost the next game, we would be talking about something else right now! Tebow is a young man to admire, a tremendous example for all of us. But he is just one man on a very talented football team that is currently on a winning streak. Let's not get all gooey

He is a great ambassador for Football in general - The guys normally getting headlines are in trouble or crying about getting paid.
Many people have blasted Tebow for his emotions, but at least he is willing to take responsibilty and push himself and his teammates to reach their potential.

I will give Tebow credit, he is what makes college football special. I hate to root for the Gators, but you do have to like Tebow. Go Dawgs!

If I'm going to idolize a 21 year old, I think I will give tribute to those young men that never saw 21 years or a college campus. I will save my tributes for those MEN who died in the wars we are presently engaged in. Not young men playing a game.

To lose a game and go onto win a national championship is instantly legendary. And I think we all can agree that if we could take Tim Tebow's work ethic and attitude and give it to every player on our teams we would take that in a second.

Love it! The guy put it on the line to only be let down by the critics and he stepped up and won another championship. I wish they had played my Trojans because I really hate anything from Florida but he held is ground and made a promise and came though. Well deserved! Tebow is the man no matter how much I hate the Gators.

He's a very good football player, perhaps the best college player of all-time, but he has been elevated to a status that probably isn't deserved for a football player. There are a lot of other 21 year olds doing more heroic acts than saying your going to win football games and winning them.

It is well documented that Tebow is more than just a football player...He is using his platform to accomplish many things outside of football. Do not want to get to religious, but Tebow is fighting a battle to save souls. I think because of his success on the field he has made it easier for other Christians in college athletics to take a stand.

In a "me" world, most young men who have arguably accomplished everything there is at the college level would have moved on to the NFL. Tebow made a statement that day that what he is doing is bigger than him and more important than just money.
I have to admire the young man for that if nothing else.

I don't think people on here are saying to idolize him but instead to admire him and wish that our guys had a little bit of what is inside him. On and off the field.

I can't wait to hear Mel Kiper talking about his 40, his vertical, then go on about Tebow has saved more souls per yard then any QB in college history.

/shrug, Kiper's just as qualified to talk about that as he is football, dude's a complete joke. I hate that his "big board" is supposed to actually mean something. www.dickipedia.org/dick.php?title=Mel_Kiper%2C_Jr. Regarding Tim's actual character, I do appreciate the fact that he's very outspoken about his beliefs and priorities and I would absolutely LOVE to have a kid play for me with the same approach to life. I think there is more than a little bit of going ga-ga over him, but frankly, the kid's a dose of something completely new. Absolutely dominating football player who doesn't go on camera and shout about how great he is, but rather deflects all praise to his creator? We've never seen one like him, at least I haven't. Maybe Tog and Huey, who I heard coached Bronko Nagurski, but not that I've seen.

I don't think that any athlete's should be idolized for athletic performance. If we continue to look at them as role models and put them on a pedestal we will be disappointed like we were with Michael Phelps. What I do believe though, is as a coach I would love to show Tebow to my players about how to play with passion and how to lead by example. I don't want them going out to the public and saying we are going to win every game, but Tebow never guarenteed victory, he promised that no one would play harder than they would, that is something you can back up. You can control how hard you play, and he did that. If I have 11 kids with the passion and mindset of Tebow, I'll win a lot of games, regardless of their size.
Should we idolize him, no, but should we use him as an example to show our team how to play the game the right way, I believe so.

Count me in the big pu$$y crowd too. Watching that, admiring Tebow as a man and athlete like I do, I get choked up. Especially when you realize by watching how sincere he was. And he didn't promise victories or championships, he made a promise he could keep, and had control over...his effort. And we all know how it paid off. I think that "promise" will be remembered like some of the coaches speeches of great lore. A "Knute Rockne" type speech. As to whether the U of F should have put it in stone, and done that now? Why not?

Tebow doesn't do anything halfa$$ed. But he's got his priorities in order too. He uses what he is and does to have a stage to promote Christianity. It's ok to admire him as a great athlete, and a great human as well. You can be both.

Wow, that post will qualify you for the jerk post of the day. Anytime someone uses their place in the publics eye to glorify the name of the Lord, then they are helping to save souls. I personally think he is a good football player.. great even.. the best?? Nah.. but.. beyond all else.. he is demonstrating that he is a good person and citizen.. that goes way beyond to me.

To answer the first question we don't have anything like that. Our guys don't have a lot of good quotes, at least quotes that you could put on a plaque. As for the plaque, you have a good inspirational quote by a good football player. They put it on a plaque in the football building. I don't see why there would be any controversy about it.
