This might sound stupid, but lets take a stab at it. This is my first year coaching and is actually at my old High School. We won 7 straight State Titles in a row and it seems the more we won the cockier and less motivated kids got each year. Last season ended our consecutive state wins. As a spectator I could just see the kids not all into the game, or when they score a TD they throw up some stupid dynasty hand signal. To me it seems just because you go to Driscoll that you are handed something and don't have to work hard, which is insane, because you should be working 10 times harder as teams are gunning for you and wanting what you have had for 7 years. All BS aside, how do I get these boys to have the hunger and fight back in them? I have ideas just looking for some outside input...

Take away everything material that reminds them they are good and have them work their butts off to get it back.

I agree with brophy about the weight room, but wheres the HC in all this? Does he feel that HIS program is starting to take for granted the hard work that others put in?

I don't want to speak on his behalf, but yes I do think so. We got kids fighting eachother over girls, kids thinking they are to good to show up for speed training on Sundays and the list goes on. last year was our HC 1st year in that position so I do believe he learned alot in regards to what needs to happen and basically it's his "WAY" or the highway. Last year I don;t think there was much dicipline, and thats what we want to impact on this year, that it's our way, we are in charge, and come play time the best prepared guy will be starting. So it's going to come down to who is putting in the time, who is making the effort, and most of all who wants it. You could be the most athletic kid on the team, but if your not working as hard as others, and just goofing off, then I strongly consider you a cancer to the team! Damn HS kids and puberty, they are a pain in the rear, just because they get a little hair and their balls, they think they are grown men lol Thnaks for some input guys....

believe it or not some kids dont really care, if they have that attitude maybe they dont give a $hit about the tradition and consecutive state titles thing. Some kids are just in it for themselves
just cuz you are hung like a moose doesnt mean you have to do porn

Dear god I love that movie, thanks for the laugh Bdub.
I think that you need to give them a firm reminder that they are not the ones that won those state titles, and if they start to think they deserve one, they'll never get another. It's not about what you deserve, it's what you earn.

Watched Driscoll's dominance from afar...
Hell of a program...
Stud coaches keep moving on... think they're into they're third coach over that 7 year run...
My understanding is that the talent/ numbers are falling...
Not to mention, they play in a hell of a conference...
Can't win them all... but for the past 7 years, looked like Driscoll was the second coming of De La salle

HC left to go to Evanston H.S. (or was it Waukegan H.S.) Did he maybe leave because he saw how the climate was changing with the kids, as far as attitudes towards football and committment?
7 titles in a row is nice, and like posted earlier, you guys play in a hell of a conference, I mean Wheaton St. Francis won the state title this year.....so beat it into the kids heads how important committment is in order to stay on top of the mountain...the ones who follow and commit are the ones you want in your program..the others are just there for the easy glory!!!

promote number nothing.
we have t shirts which say number nothing. kids know rankings mean nothing when you approach it this way.
too many people put too much stock in rankings.

Take away everything material that reminds them they are good and have them work their butts off to get it back. I agree with that. There is a school around here that makes their players earn their helmet decals every year. Until they earn them, they wear blank helmets. It seems to motivate the team a lot.

Alot of good points, appreciate all the replies. Yes, our conference if pretty tough. St. Francis who won 5a and Montini who probably would have won 5a if they didn't meet st francis in the playoffs. Then not to far away you got Don Beebe's school (Aurora Christian) Tougher makes you better and wiser though so the challenge is always good to have. Once again, appreciate all the advice, this website is really informative and I think i'm addicted to it lol ;D

Just because you win something doesn't mean you don't need advice...maybe thats a personal problem you have. Maybe taking advice for you is too macho, don't know, don't really care. You obviosuly didn't ready my post! I personally didn't win anything and will never take credit until that day comes.
