With the clinic season almost over, which clinics did you all go to? Who did you see who was real good? Anyone you saw who was disappointing?

The Glazier clinic in Destin was good as usual. I love the format of their clinics because I can always find something good to sit in on. I don't have to wait around or sit through junk I'm not interested in.

The best clinician I saw this was was Bob Shoop from William and Mary. It was him an overhead and a marker, he spoke for almost two hours because it was right before dinner and he talked as long as we asked questions. Not one minute of BS. This was in sharp contrast to the rest of my clinic season which was the worst in my years of coaching. on three occasions the speakers stopped talking over TEN minutes early. I can not remember a speaker EVER finishing early. On two other occassions, the speaker literally acknowledged that they were not going to speak on the subject they were suppossed to speak about. what a bunch of crap. another session I went to the speaker passed out handouts and literally read them word for word. WTF. We are doing a couple of private visits in the next few weeks so those should be pretty good. also going up to the DeMeo clinic in April

I was really only upset at one.
It said spread offense. They switched speakers, and I didn't know the new one. He spoke on the spread option alright, the Wing T two wide receiver spread.
I was upset because I was torn between that and another, and the other I heard was awesome.

Sometimes "spread" is all about perspective. I was talking to a family friend who played for a rival school a few seasons ago. I had heard his coach, a longtime Wing T coaching legend, was going to "spread it out a little" and I questioned the kid about it. His eyes lit up and he said, "yeah, this is what we're doing!" He then in great detail drew up the I formation for me, lol!!
As far as clinics go, I unfortunately only made two this offseason, but both Bryon Hamilton and Mark Speckman were terrific at the AFM clinic in KC. If any IL guys get to see Heath Fullerton speak on oline play, he is outstanding as well. I saw him speak at the Graphic Edge clinic in Jacksonville, IL.

Had my first oppourtunity to go to the Glaizer Clinics this year (in Toledo and Cinncinnati). I was really impressed with Joe Gilbert (new Illnois OL) and McNally was about all I expected and them some (being his practice dummy was pretty cool).

Went Burlingame All-sports clinic, was VERY disappointed in general. Only speakers that were worthwhile were Mark Speckman and. . . shoot, that was about it. Luckily Coaches Hamilton and Bryan had a clinic room for SIX HOURS. Good thing, too, seeing as how they won't have any one asking for them to talk next year. Hopefully will get a lot more from visiting spring practices.
Went to one talk about "Defending the spread from the 3-4" where he talked about darn near everything but that. I'd never walked out of a clinic talk before that one...

If it's not what you thought and your not getting anything why not go to one that you might get something from.

Chicago Glazier clinic was pretty good overall. The special-teams coordinator from Eastern Illinois University (I can't remember his name for the life of me) was pretty darn good, his presentation covered a lot of important stuff that some h.s. coaches probably take for granted.

Only went to two clinics thus far (Michigan HS Coaches Assoc. and Toledo Glazier Clinic), I still plan on going to Notre Dame and Michigan State's clinics but so far:
Joe Gilbert from Illinois was good Darrel Hazel from Ohio State gave me a greater understanding of WR play Chuck Martin from Grand Valley was good and enteraining as usual Ken Karcher from Eastern Michigan was also very good chalk talks with the Michigan staff @ MHSFCA clinic were 10x better than the clinic speeches

I spoke a clinic in CT years ago about our toss sweep series. The first hour I had about 75 guys in the room.. the second hour only about 15 showed up. I was so embarassed, i apologized to the coach running the seminar. he said don't worry about it..everyone went to watch the UConn game because they were playing in the tournament. Thanks Coach!!

Urban Meyer at the Nike COY in Tunica was great. He talked for 1.5 hours and talked about offense for 10 minutes at the most. The rest was about playing hard and as a team.

That's why I sit somewhere I can make a good escape from. I figure I am paying good money for a clinic and am not going to waste the time and money by staying in a session that is not good or I am not getting anything out of. So I get up and go find something that is more valuable, now I will admit sometimes that's at a table with a bunch of guys and a few beers and sometimes that's where you get the best stuff! Maybe that's unprofessional to get up and leave but I am paying for it.

I heard a coach talk about man/zone route combinations and what he did was put a highlight up of his son and how great his sons were. I walked out because it was a joke.

Clovis East Coach Tim Murphy did a great job at the Cherry Hill Mega Clinic talking about the Double Wing and 44 Swarm Defense. Also heard that Tulsa's coach Herb Hand had coaches rolling during his presentation.

Glen McNew spoke at MegaClinics in Boston, Green Bay, and Pittsburgh. I heard him in Pittsburgh and, as usual, his room was packed. He is very knowledgable on many areas on both sides of the ball. If he is at a MegaClinic near you and his topics are of interest to you, by all means, get there. He is retired now so he isn't like a lot of other speakers who hold back the "good stuff" because of opponents being in the audience. He is also very appproachable via the phone or email for follow-up sessions at no charge. He'll encourage you to call him at the end of his talk.

Best: Kirby Smart, Jim Tressel, Mark Hudspeth, Jim Herrman
Worst: Phil Fulmer, Jim Deaton, Mickey Andrews,
The last two are great defensive minds, but they are just not suited to speak at clinics.

Charlotte, Atlanta, Cleveland and Harrisburg Glazier Clinics (I really like those things)... McNally was great, finally saw Coverdale and he's fantastic. Greg Gregory was a nice surprise (South Alabama), Blankenship from Tulsa... stumbled in to Chuck Apap on Saturday morning in Harrisburg and was amazed, I was ready to apply for head jobs at tiny schools so I could install the Wing-T. G.A. Mangus, QB Coach from South Carolina was good, as was Steve Spurrier Jr (never thought I'd say anything good about that family).
It was worth the massive debt I rolled up, school only paid for a car and hotel in Charlotte.

DC from Grand Valley was hysterical, entertaining and informative. His speech on Tackling packed the room !!

Brian Harsin: OC from Boise State. One hour was not enough time for the info he presented. My hand was hurting from all the notes.
It was a bang band presentation: PPT, then Diagram, then vid. then PPT then more diagram and discusssion. Bang Bang bang. It was one of the best presentations I have seen.
