Just wondering (being that there are Coaches from all over the country) if any Big Time College Coaching Staffs allow you / your staff time to sit down one on one and Chalk Talk. IF so list the Colleges that do so. Being in Burbs of Chicago, we had the opportunity to sit down with Northwestern and their staff. Great group of guys Coach Fitzgerald has.

Most all are willing to do so if you can schedule with them at an appropriate time- it's far from rare.

Our head coach BIll Redell regularly sits down with USC AND UCLA. it's a reall cool situation. Furthermore, why wouldnt they? We had the BEST QB/TB in nation 2 yrs ago (Jimmy Clausen, Marc TYLER) and this year we have Nick Montana's at QB and Malcom Jones 6 ft 230 tailback.

Its been my experience that any coach will chalk talk with you if they are interested in your players of may be interested in the future. Anytime a coach comes in to see one of our guys, if the time is right, I'l say hey coach how do you guys __________? Most guys love to talk X's and O's.

I'm from New York and have sat in with North Carolina during spring ball and the old Syracuse staff. I really think it depends on the type of kids you got...When I'm at a school with some big time kids I've felt more welcome.

Let me throw in the idea that you don't have to go to BCS staffs to get good info. Some of the best stuff that we've ever gotten has come from D.3 or HS staffs.

5straight, I agree with you about the Northwestern staff and pat Fitzgerald. They let us come down and watch a spring practice last year, sit in their position meetings and then have one on one chalk talks with their staff. They were very hospitable, just like I assume most colleges would be

2 years ago Ohio State was recruiting one of our players (mike brewster) and Tressel and the OC came by the school to talk to him and have the in home visit. they spent the entire afternoon with us shoot the $hit and talking X's and O's. on a side note that man really does wear that sweater vest everywhere he goes, even in Florida during 85 degree weather.

When I was at James Island HS in Charleston, SC, Coach Rodriguez was still at West Virginia. We ran their offense so every summer we would load the kids in 15 passenger vans (about three of them) and the kids would go up for their camp and 7 on 7 tournament. Their staff gave us full access of meeting rooms, weightroom, film / cut-ups. It was awesome! Rick Trickett was still there and he worked with our OL coach. Our HC was good friends with Coach Stewart (the current HC at WVU). Plus it gave us an opportunity to take some of our kids who had never been off of James Island to West Virginia! What an awesome opportunity! We spent major time clinicing with their staff. The 7-on-7 tournament at the end of the week was a chance to play kids from Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, etc. HUGE experience for our kids!!

To reaffirm what phantom has said, the best experience we had was with Carson Newmans staff. Really good stuff. We got time with Sparks (HC), Turner (OC), and Needs (QB) and others, we spent the entire day with them and watched practice. Very good experience.

Let me throw in the idea that you don't have to go to BCS staffs to get good info. Some of the best stuff that we've ever gotten has come from D.3 or HS staffs. This is dead on- don't over look quality close to home. Bigger does not mean better and let's be 100% honest coaches have ego's and if you call them and say "Coach you all are by far the most physical team up front we see on tape year in and year out can we set up a meeting to discuss how you go about doing that?" 99% of coaches will be happier then hell to share. I asked the HC from one of the top programs in our region to come in last spring and not only did he agree he brought in his OC and we spent 4-5 hours talking.

Most colleges at all levels are good with this stuff, they have to be since HS coaches are their lifeline to players. I would agree that the bigger the program the more it helps to have kids they are interested in, but most in-state schools are more than willing to help out coaches in the area since they most often recruit those places. I am sure there are some that aren't as open door as some but just call around if you are interested and find somewhere that is.
It also helps to set it up at the right time of year, some places like it when you visit during spring ball and some others are more accommodating after signing day and after spring ball when it's a bit more of down time for them.

Like ajreaper said, if you can schedule with them at the right time, they are usually willing to sit down and talk for a hour or two. Even if they arent currently interested in one of your kids, they might be sometime down the road. I have been fortuante enough to sit down with position coaches from TCU, BGSU, UT, U-M, but to be honest some of the best info I got was from D2, D3 schools, especially the D3 guys would sit and talk as long as you wanted and didnt mind following up with another meeting if you wanted. Just dont expect them to sit down and talk ball during December-January during heavy recruiting time. Ive had the most luck asking to come in after spring practice.
