We're building a new equipment room at our new high school in a few years, and I'm needing some suggestions to build into the new equipment room, which will be about 900 sq. feet.
I'd really appreciate any ideas you guys have about how to build it so it's functional and efficient. What to have, what to make sure we avoid, luxuries, etc.
Thanks in advance.

Do you mean a weight room or a equipment storage room?

Lots of shelf space, plugs for fans, drying racks, large and small storage bins, place to hang clip boards, bags and other things . Good if it had an entrance and an exit too so you can assembly line the kids through there during handouts.

And if you don't have an enterence and an exit, maybe have an assistant stand at the door bouncer-style and only let 3/4/5 kids in at a time to keep it from getting too chaotic during those handouts. Been in a few handouts that were nightmares. Too easy for a kid to miss something or not get fitted quite right by someone in a rush . . .

It's a simple suggestion but you need to hang all of your helmets, by size. We recently changed our equipment room a little bit to save on some space and we hung half of our helmets up, we still need to do the other half this year, but things are more organized and it's a lot easier to pass them out when they are sorted out.

go see texas tech or lubbock high
they have sliding cabinets that maximize space, but still make it easy to get to stuff
