The league I'm in is looking at putting together an invitational tournament on Thanksgiving Weekend this year in Phoenix, AZ. Invitations would be presented to state champions first, then runner ups, etc... As I understand it would be open to various leagues. This is usually an open weekend and is two weeks before nationals so it can fill in a time void there. If your interested or have suggestions let me know.

Suggestions:
Make sure you have everything in place my May. teams that travel have to raise a ton of $$ and must have long planning windows.
First week in November is good, after DST kicks in there is zero daylight for us to practice in and here is gets cold, the later you go, the less chance you have of getting teams from the Midwest.
Have 2 games max, so everyones travel plans are set, not up in the air etc.
Far away teams probably arent coming. Say the teams around here that go to Florida, at about 15-25k per team per trip 1 trip is probably all it's going to be able to do in 1 season.

Yes, I'd assume Midwest or further away teams wouldn't be able to do it and go to Florida, perhaps runner up teams that didn't qualify for Florida might be able to. I know what your saying money wise, we've sent teams to Florida the last two years and its every bit of 20-25K to go. The date is pretty much set as our playoffs and championships are before that. We usually will go to CA and play the first week of December so that weeks out also and nationals are the following week.

Even without the midwest & further, I would think you'd be able to find plenty enough teams to make it solid tournament just looking to Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico and maybe even Colorado. Teams from all those areas (except maybe Colorado) are within driving distance or a very short flight, so cost shoudln't be prohibitive. I'll mention it to the powers that be here, but since we host the California tournament in early December that you mentioned, I'm not sure how much interest there will be in going somewhere else the week before. Good luck.
