Kurt Gouviea - was a qb in high school in Hawaii, was recruited as a linebacker at BYU (member of a National Championship team in 1984) and earned 2 Super Bowl rings with Washington Redskins. He played for XLF's Las Vegas Outlaws.

I think another question to ask is "Why are you moving him?" If you don't think he will have to tools to play the position at the next level, but he has the overall skills to play football at the next level, aren't you doing the kid a disservice by plugging him into a short term position? I am moving him because he is the best player on my team that fits our system. I just happened to see him playing qb in gym class and it really blew my mind. From what I have seen of him this offseason he should have been at qb alst season. He may have been out of position and qb is his natural position

I think I have to disagree with Red&White and CC on this one. I look at my job as a coach and I think my responsibility is to develop boys into men, and to provide them with the best opportunity to succeed both on and off the field. Part of that is recognizing that if I have a kid with the ability to play at the next level (especially the really special kids), then I have a responsibility to make sure that they are prepared to do so. If I've got a kid who is the best athlete on my team, but he doesn't have the Qb IQ or arm to play at the next level, and I've got another kid who would be just fine at QB, although maybe not QUITE as good as the first kid, then I feel I have a responsibility to that kid, his family, and the rest of my team to do what is right for the PLAYER, not what is best for me as a coach. That's just my philosophy though - not saying I'm right. If the kid was a next level QB, then I would agree with you about not moving him. But most of the time, the situation is that he's probably a next level TE or WR but your team needs a QB. Team first, playing QB will prepare him for the other offensive positions. Obviously there are always exceptions, like you have two potential qb that could get the job done, but those are rare (at least around here). I would love to be able to chose between an 8 and a 7. usually its between a 7 and 3.

Quan Cosby was a QB in high school and went on to be a pretty good WR at UT. Jamie Foxx played QB at Terrell and went on to win an oscar playing Ray Charles.
