Coaches: If the NFHS attempts to ban the A-11, things will be set in motion. This simple example below is pretty clear and Thanks again to Coach Huey for everything. This will boom nationwide for Any team wanting to Retain the Right to use the A-11 Offense if they see fit. Here is just one example of about 10 options being discussed, this is the Macro version, but for many years the precedent has already been set. Example: For the most part, the high school football teams in Texas and Massachusetts play under modified NCAA rules for their own reasons, and not under NHFS rules - as do most of the other teams in the remaining 48 states and Washington, DC. However, when a team from Texas plays a team from Oklahoma, you now have two different teams competing against each other (the games do count) even though they operate under different governing ruling bodies. Now for another example, look at a team from Massachusetts traveling to play a team in maybe Rhode Island, again two teams competing (the games count) even though one team is under their modified NCAA rules and the other uses NFHS. In short, IF the opportunity arises, below is one possibility that can easily happen: 1. ANY high school football team in the USA will be able to join the new Federation that allows “traditional” football and the new A-11 Offense to be played. 2. Not one single team in America will be forced to join the new Federation, nor will they be forced to alter their season schedule. The precedent has already been set and in effect for many years nationwide. Some teams will choose to always play traditional football respectively, and some teams will decide to “Retain the Right” to use the A-11 Offense if they believe it will help their program. 3. There are many other great items stemming from this. However, this brief explanation should help put things in perspective, as to just one of the options presented to us by various groups across the country. Again, thanks for all you do, and your thoughts and opinions are very much respected. KB

I don't see it happening...due to officials, costs, High School Sanctioning & Governing Bodies etc. I know you enjoy your offense but are you proposing that A-11 schools break away?
The UIL, here in Texas, would not allow another federation to work outside of the rules that are established.

A quick story to make a point:
I coach at a school where in 99/00 we were considered to be tops in the state and nation. Lost 1 game in those two years sent 10 kids D-1 blahh blahh blahh. We all thought we would retire from coaching there years down the road. Fwd to '04 when the HC resigned due to issues with the school administration , plus we were good but not the level we were in 99-00, and I am coaching at a new school 4 years after thinking I would coach at the old school for my entire career.
My point is it's kind of stupid for a coach to try and get his school to break away from a state federation just to run an O. What happens when said coach is gone and the team runs something different? What happens to the other sports. I know here in PA our state association would prob say ok you want to leave in football you leave in everything. Is that fair to the other sports? All because a loop hole is closed in the rules? Sounds like a lot of sour grapes with no regard for the rest of the school.

Imagine the A 11 with NFL hashmarks. talk about spreading the field.

Coach,
Is using a particular style of offense that important to some teams that they would be willing to go to such lengths simply to be able to say "we move the football this way, and we're not changing?"
I thought one of the key philosophical elements of the A-11 was that it gave less talented (?) schools an equilizer on offense? If you went to a league where pretty much everyone is running the same offense, then you're all back to square one again, no?
Also, is the idea behind the A-11 offense more important than the over-arching importance of football itself? I guess what I mean is, I've run the same base offense for my whole career. I love it. When I take a dump, you can see my base play diagramed in what I dumped. That being the case, if they all of a sudden said "no, that is no longer legal," I wouldn't look to "seperate from the Union," I'd simply start learning how to coach the game within a different context.
The GAME is more important than the schemes, isn't it? Or is it not? I don't know....
It just seems a bit emotional and over-reactionary to me.

Gotta go to meetings guys but please read item # 1 and 2 more closely. Teams will not have to reschedule if they also want to be a part of a new Federation, the precedent is already in place. Take care, KB

Take care, KB Awww, poor poor you. Can you imagine what would have happened if the spread guys had decided to be little babies and whine and cry when they made 5 guys wear uneligible numbers? Would we even have football anymore? Oh wait, they changed the play clock around in the NCAA, I don't like it so I'm going to encourage my team to leave and form it's own league Go play soccer...the NCAA and NFL will continue to get it right.

Realize that school teams are not autonimous and able to make their own decisions. I believe that every team in the US plays under a state association. That state association would have to make that decision. In my state if we decided not to play by association rules I am not sure who we would be able to schedule with during the regular season and we would definitely be disqualified from state post-season competition.
Through the years there have been many things that have been ratified with-in the national association guidelines. Those changes are highlighted every year in the front of your rules book. I beleive that those who make those decisions do so for the betterment of the game and not to just stick-it to one style or another. There are many factors that are involved in all sorts of decisions.

Seems like you're all about your own success rather than bettering the game of football, coaching, and the players.
I know you have blinders on when it comes to your offense but by the Fed closing this loophole it is actually improving the integrity of the game.

I hate to say this but it seems to me that this is turning into a desperate attempt to save a, I would assume, sizable income opportunity for involved parties.
Schools don't decide which rules to follow, the state associations do. So if a school chooses to play in this "new federation" then I am sure the state associations will remove said school from their association. So you would basically turn your school into an independent in every way. Plus where would you get ref's from? You would have to create a governing body to certify ref's to use in your federation. Just makes no sense to me.

No way in a million years would any school break away from our state organization. What is the point? to not be involved in the true playoff format? Breaking away from our organizations and creating a new one because we don't like the rules... what is that teaching our kids?

Why not have each school be its own federation and write its own rules since it so easy for schools using different rules to play each other? That way, you could just eliminate any rule you didn't like and write any new ones you thought would give your team an advantage. Actually, I think there is already a word for this, anarchy.

1. ANY high school football team in the USA will be able to join the new Federation that allows “traditional” football and the new A-11 Offense to be played. How can this be possible? I don't know about the schools in CAL but most schools are not going to spend millions on travel expenses, correct?

I just started my own federation 15 seconds ago. We are the regional, state, national, world, and universal champs. Whatever I say goes.
If anyone wants to join, feel free. There is a $1000 fee just to find out what the annual fee will be.
By the way, if you beat me, it doesn't matter, we are still champs because I say so.

What a joke! The A-11 takes advantage a loophole in the rules. Close the loophole and force these guys to coach football again. If they want everyone eligible then go coach 6 or 8 man, or start a club team.
All this A-11 stuff. How many state titles won with the A-11 so far? I am guessing 0 and will predict that number stays the same for a long time to come.

OK, Bryan's officially gone off the deep end if he really believes any school would "cede" from a state organization just so they have "the right" to run the A-11. The problems and complexities of even attempting that are obvious and far too many to list here. You would have an easier time getting schools who would like to run the A-11 to scrap their tackle football in favor of creating a flag football league. There are reasons they haven't done that already...
If the Fed--THE ONLY MAJOR RULING BODY TO "ALLOW" THE A-11--bans it, then the offense in its current form is politically, economically, and even socially DEAD. Sorry, Coach Bryan. It really was a clever idea. You can still build an offense around the BYU, Emory & Henry spreads, etc. to sell to people at all levels.

It might have already been said in another thread, but this talk of a seperate federation brings up a question for me.
Coach Bryan you have talked at length here about the precedent being set for two teams from different federation playing against each other and there being no problem. They have seperate rules and they co-exist. Well thats because when they play against each other they agree upon which set of rules are to be used.
Do you really expect another team to agree to use your rules? And if they say no are you willing to play by the standard football rules? And if not are you going to find enough teams to play that will play by your modified rules without bankrupting your school district?

Coaches: Here is just one example of about 10 options being discussed, this is the Macro version, but for many years the precedent has already been set. The precendent has been set for teams from different states to play each other. But my guess is that in states where there are two associations, they are not allowed to play each other. For example, in Alabama, there is the AHSAA & the AISA. The AHSAA does not allow any team in the AHSAA to play any team in the AISA. The AISA is just for private schools while the AHSAA is for all the public schools plus any private schools that want to join. The AHSAA also makes you play all your sports in the same association. You can't pick and decide which one for each. All each association has to say is that its members can't play the A-11 association. The precendent has been set. Guess which one my money is on. By the way, do you really think the people who are in charge of what association your school is in (superintendent) are going to go for this and throw away all their other sports???

in our district their is a single wing wing team and they do a hell of a job with it -- if this new federation thing works out for Coach Bryan - I'm considering starting my own anti -single wing federation -- (and could probably get more members!!!)

Dude, I beat everyone in forming a new federation. Scroll about 5 up.
Stop stealing my idea.
Now, for $299.99 I will send you a DVD on how to start your association.
Or just go ahead and pay the $1000 to have the priveledge of finding out how to join my association. As a matter of fact, if your team is the first to join, I will guarantee you the state championship in class 10A. My school is the class 1000A champs. I declared it 5 minutes ago.
