This from a less bloodthirsty basketball coach and game played in Nebraska this week:
Mismatches happen every season in basketball, everywhere in the country. Sometimes, though, a heartwarming story arises and such was the case at Saturday's first-round game in the Crossroads Conference boys basketball tournament at York's City Auditorium.
The following is from Stan Hendricks, a former successful coach at Louisville, who's now the superintendent at High Plains:
"Rising City only has six boys out for basketball. One was ill that evening, allowing only five to suit up. As bad luck would have it, one player received a cut on his lip in the second quarter which prevented him from continuing. Rising City had to play the remainder of the game with four players. High Plains coach Cameron Hudson immediately huddled his team together and removed one of his own players from the floor so the game would continue as a four-on-four contest. High Plains, which suits up 15 players, allowed everyone to see considerable playing time. The entire fourth quarter was played by athletes who rarely see the floor in varsity games.
"This last week I've read several times about the high school game in Texas that ended 100-0. It seemed that the compassionate sportsmanship of the High Plains coach and players needed to be passed on as well."

Along with the girl hitting a homerun last year in softball, these are great examples sportsmanship by both players and coaches.
