Tomorrow before the superbowl we are having a coaches/wives meeting.
I have about 2 hours to cover what I want to cover. I plan to go over our defensive philosophy and the basic alignment, assignment and techniques for our package. I will also cover a few basic adjustments that we will use. I dont want to get too deep into scheme and lose time for technique. I anticipate doing more education on technique later.
I have the staff assignments broken down like so:
2 coaches will work with the defensive tnt
Myself and one assistant will work with linebackers/defensive ends (my des are to be able to play lber as well)
2 coaches will work with the secondary.
I have a floater coach who will work with the de/lbers when I am elsewhere. otherwise he will work where he is needed on any particular day.
I have handed out defensive manuals and dvds to my staff and training videos for positions as well. I am asking my defensive coaches to develop and name drill for their area of responsibility and keep a position coaches manual. I would like to provide our feeder teams with these manuals and video of drills that we run at the varsity level.
Is there anything else that you think should be addressed? I think this is a lot for one day as it is.
I have video to show but I think it again will take more time than we have.
In previous meeting my staff (those who showed) had the floor and were able to make suggestions on different things. I promised to listen without response and do not yet plan to respond to those things we discussed. I will save that for our next meeting.
