Just wanted to share this story.
I was shocked the other evening when I was invited to be a part of a former player's signing day (Alabama). I coach middle school, so to be invited to a signing day is a first time thing for me. He and his mother both wanted me there. I was smiling from ear to ear the rest of the day. It is so great to know that four years down the road this young man and his family thought enough about myself and the head coach I was under to invite us both to be a part of this huge event in his life.
I'm a Georgia fan, but I guess I might have to say "Roll Tide" a few times over the next few years.

That's awesome, coach.
You obviously made an impression on his life.

We had some intense discussions on that board about problems players make, problems with school officials, problems with the community, bla bla.
But when things like that happen, it´s worth all the crap we faced so far, right? Thanks for sharing these moments.

I had a player that I coached in basketball for my church when I was a senior in hs sign a few years ago to play d1 baseball. It makes you feel good when someone you coached signs to play a sport in college. Even though I am only 3 years older than him, it was still something I will never forget, coaching a d1 athlete.

I was a groomsman in a former player's wedding (coached him for 4 years, had known him since he was a 7th grader). That is what it is all about. He is expecting twin boys, and have been asked to be a god-parent/sponsor (not sure what his church calls it).

I was going through a pretty ugly time a few years ago with parents, etc when I got a letter in the mail from a kid I coached in a 16-18 year old summer baseball league way back in 1978, telling me to hang in there and how much he appreciated having me as his coach. I hadn't heard from this kid in 25 years and the letter just showed up out of the blue. Boy, It came at a great time and just shows that you never know the impact you're having on players.

Great stories guys. Just like some of you mentioned, things like this make up for any rough times I encounter in the profession. Things like this are the reason I keep coming back. Here is one of his recruiting profiles for those who are interested. footballrecruiting.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=72972

Did he ever show signs that he might be something special when you were coaching him?

I'm a Georgia fan, but I guess I might have to say "Roll Tide" a few times over the next few years. I understand... but say it quietly. And in your own home. Go Dawgs! Congratulations Coach!
