We have been throwing around the idea of having a Madden Tournament as a fundraiser for our football program. We just don't raise the money necessary for the "get out and sell stuff" fundraisers in this community. Almost every kid and family in the area has a PS3 or XBOX in the house, so we are thinking of doing this as a fundraiser: UploadFree.US/image.aspx?f=2009\01\24\tn\rzql2v2xlkcm3dnoiq434e55_Madden Tournament Flyer 09 B.jpg[/img] What do you guys think?

One of the frats at the college I go to does one every year to raise money for make a wish or something like that. They charge 5 or 10 dollars to enter and give away a trophy to the winner.

would be nice to read what you have on the flyer.
How would you run it? How would you make $ on it?
Just curious wouldn't raising money using copyright material be breaking the law?

would be nice to read what you have on the flyer. Don't know why it didn't do a bigger picture... I'll see if I can blow it up.

Just curious wouldn't raising money using copyright material be breaking the law? I'm going to go to a local place where they hold Halo Tournaments all the time and see if there is any red-tape to jump through... Thought as long as we are not reproducing it, copying it, or trying to sell different version of it, we are safe. I'll double check.

Yeah... We thought of going $100 per player and having more people win money, but the initial response was not good to that.
The plan is to get a 16 team tournament on both XBOX and PS3. That would get us $1200 bucks right off the top. (1600 in fees - 200 to winners). Then we figure that all the kids in it will have their 2 or 3 friends that will come with them to watch, so we pick up some more $ from admission and concessions.
We are in a community that has about 75% of families at or below the poverty line. Traditional fundraisers just haven't produced over our first 2 seasons here. We are trying to change it up. We are also putting together a lift-a-thon for the spring, to see if we can get kids to raise some money for some new away uniforms. Ours are in terrible shape. We had kids wearing different white unis game to game because of the budget issues around here right now.

One idea I have been toying with for a long time is to do a Wii bowling tournament. Madden tournaments are good, but it really limits the people you can have participate.
With Wii bowling, ANYONE can play - from your grandma to your 5-year old son. Plus the games are much quicker - you could play a game in 10 minutes. You could also bring in ideas like with golf tournaments - paying extra for strikes, etc...
Here is a youtube video where they did it with competing senior citizens. Very funny.
