On the topic of kids targeting refs and kids punching coaches, did anyone see Mike Thomas shove Mike Stoops the other night? Of course the commentators said it was no big deal, but I wonder how some of you would respond to your star WR shoving you in the heat of the moment? I don't think he would have seen the field the rest of the night on my book!
TV guys said "You have to pick your battles!"
Just looking for comments

I didn't see it, but if they were having a heated exchange, and the WR pushed the coach... He gone! If the WR was having a heated exchange with someone else, and the coach comes from no where to interject, and the player pushes the coach, unknowing it was the coach... that's different. We teach the kids to be aggressive, mobile, agile, and hostile, expectations have to be tempered, when it comes to temper.

He would be finished for the game in my book.
I remember when Larry Bird was just hired as the new coach for the Indiana Pacers. He was being interviewed and was asked how he would respond to a player throwing a towel at him as a player had done to 1st year coach, Danny Ainge, when Ainge pulled him out of the game during a Phoenix Suns game.
Bird said, "If one of my players threw a towel at me?" The interview said, "uh huh." Bird said, "there would be a fist fight."
That's pro basketball and much different arena than college or H.S. football. The point is, the coach would be making the biggest statement.
Thomas would have been out of the game in my program. At least.
True, there are factors that only Stoops, UofA and Thomas know about but if you allow a player to cross the line, what's next?

I saw it and I could not believe he was still in the game.
From what it "appeared" on the TV. Thomas was struggling some. Coach Stoops went to "talk" to Thomas and Thomas looked like he jawed back at stoops and tried to walk away. Stoops grabbed his arm to bring him back and Thomas pushed him in the chest.
There is no way he would of still played if it was me and when it happened I even told my Fiance that he would be watching the game from the locker room.

and then Mike Stoops is apologizing and glad handing the player with the position coach 2 plays later.
Even if the kid was fired up, I don't see how that would ever be acceptable.
I think the CONTEXT that was presented was the coaches kept asking if he was "okay"? and did he need to come out (because he wasn't himself), and as I take it, Thomas was adamant about STAYING IN THE GAME and competing.
Take it for what it is.
It was a GREAT game (so was the So Miss / Troy game)
