You'll be surprised what you can raise by simply asking people and businesses for donations. You won't get it if you don't ask! If you ask 100 people, you'll probably get 10 to donate some money to the program.

Send me a PM with your e-mail and I'll send you my file of ideas that I stole from this site, and others, and consolidated. Pretty good list, with descriptions.
Open to anyone.

Donations are great but with the economy the way it is, could be a touchy subject.
Another consideration is if any other programs are doing donation calls/letters.
Last consideration is to find out if your district is planning to run a levy or a bond anytime soon. If so, probably not good timing.
They can give you good return. We did one about 10 years ago and made $5,000.00. About 75 kids sent out 10 letters apiece.
I've thought about resurrecting a donation letter a year ago but was asked to consider all of the above.
We decided to raise $ through other means and still met our goals. We sold Elite Fundraiser cards. We made 82% of our sales and cleared over $10,000 in one week of sales. We do lift-a-thons, carwashes and ads for our game program.
