Last night, ESPN apparently played the 1958 NFL Championship Game. I would have liked to record it.
Did anyone watch it? What offenses and defenses did the two teams use?

I saw the last half of this and it was very interesting. They had a good cross-section of present and former players, announcers, etc. Pat Summeral was paired up with Adam Viniateiri (sp?)...I want to watch the whole thing. Johnny U. to Raymond Berry!
The documentary claimed that the game was the genesis of hot route adjustments, the no-huddle, the two-minute drill and sudden death. Really cool and well done.

So, does anyone know what kind of formations they used back then? Coverages? Fronts?
What kinds of series did they run on offense?

I DVRed it, but haven't watched it yet. Looks to be interesting. The fact that Lombardi and Landry running the offense and defense for the Giants, was great.

It was pro style formationing, out of a T-tight base.
T-tight was what EVERYONE ran, after the Chicago Bears in 1940 rolled in the championship game.
No I-formation, but you could see 21, 22 personnel out of twins, pro-flanker, etc.
They ran a ton of power, traps, toss, etc.
Defense of the day was the old 50 front, as I believe the Landry 4-3 had yet to come to prominence.
(interesting, I think Lombardi and Landry were assistants for the Giants before taking over the Packers and Giants, respectively......were they coaching in this game?)
Another point of interest, I believe everyone at this time was using Paul Brown's passsing scheme........Sid Gillman was still a little bit down the line.
Football historians, chime in and correct me.

Yes they were the coordinators for the Giants. They say they were the real brains of the operation.

Yeah it will definitely be on again. While it was interesting to hear perspective from the old-timers, I would really just like to watch the game in its entirety with the original broadcasters without all of the interuptions.

I was within minutes of seeing the game, but missed my connection. Instead, I watched/heard it live. My buddy went up and was in the crowd that tore the goal posts down. My souvenir- a piece of the foam goal post padding. I still have it. Being a Baltimoron, it was a piece of history for me, along with Johnny U's autograph.

I was interested in the beginning of the game to see how sloppy the game was. You could tell the pro game was not a thing of precision like it is now. I can see why the college game was liked over the pro game.

I really wish it was possible to see the original broadcast, how did they lose this important piece of history?

Although most everything was stored, over the course of decades it would simply deteriorate (or deteriorate upon opening and being exposed to oxygen), so even if you had it it might not last. Has happened to a lot of old things.
