I am looking for some permian coaches from 80's or 90's to ask them questions about the old wing T.

What is the difference between the Permian Wing-T and other versions of the wing-t offense?
What is the difference between these versions of the wing-t and say the "slot-T" offense that Liberty Hill runs?

I think that the Permian wing-t was different terminology than the Delaware system. No idea on the slot-t but I think the coach from Liberty Hill is speaking at the wing-t clinic in Pittsburgh this year.

Coach Huey, When were you in Odessa? I grew up there played for Coach Wilkins in the 80's.

the slot-t as run by liberty hill is a thing of beauty
they have few formation tells like other wing-t's slot-t's I have seen as they can be totally balanced and screw you in so many ways on your base adjustments to their quick motion etc

What is the difference between the wing-t and the slot-t? Heard the slot-t is spreading like wild fire in Tejas and I don't have a clue what it is, even though I'm about 30 minutes from the Red River.

mitch--
could be wrong here, but what I consider and call the slot t is simply :
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------H---------F---------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------Q---------------wb---------------------------- -----------------------------TE-----T-----G-----C-----G----T---------------SE------------------
as the most common formation in their arsenal. Basically, the TE and the halfback travel together and the WB and Split end travel together. AGain, could be way off base.

I played for Ed Hickman who was the DC there in the 80s. I was at El Campo and I have My dads playbook which was copied from permian. Huey Chancellor at Bellville played in the Permian system and also coached with Hickman

I played at Permian in 82, 83, and 84 under Coach Wilkens. I have a copy of the Permian Playbook, still use a lot of the defense stuff in it.

Doesn't really matter since no one will have the athletes and kids that Permian had in those days.

33 lead, split 18, 16 counter, 30 trap, boot @ 9, 36 G, 14 pitch trap, 45 counter, waggle @ 8, 12 lead, 233 pass, 236 pass, sprintouts to either side of the l.o.s., straight dropback series, etc... - the bread and butter plays that you have to be able to get good at are 39 pitch and 18 pitch - luke

Here are a few youtube video links that at least show some of the plays being talked about on this thread.

groundchuck, Good stuff!
Chewy, If you check out that clip Groundchuck posted, you'd see there was nothing physically special about Permian players back then. Possible exceptions being players like Brit Haegar(SP?), The Hill brothers, and a few others over the years. They were just damned good at executing. Some of my friends played there and Odessa High. My relatives played at Midland Lee and Midland High. In fact, the RB that scored that first TD for Lee in that clip is my cousin.
