Coaches;
Anyone out there have any experience with major fundraising at the HS level? Our district is small, and with 2 proposed school renovations about to occur *before* updating our 60 year old stadium, I am in search of alternate methods to accomplish this goal to save the taxpayers some coin. Even if we didnt raise all of the money...
If anyone out there has expereince in this, or can point me in the right direction, I would be very grateful. if I could get my hands on a sample proposal or something like that...!! I'm not familiar with grants, but at the same time I don't know if we can get a grant to build, seeing how this is a public school.
I'm in the dark..help!!

There is a football program down the road from us that raffles off a Harley each spring. They only sell 1000 tickets, but the tickets are 50.00, so the clear over 25,000 each spring. You could add some more items, 4 wheelers, mopeds, etc... and sell 1000 tickets at 100.00.

One school I was at did a gun raffle with 1000 tickets for 100.00 each like posted above. Was a huge success for a few years till it got shut down by the admin. Pretty sure they made over 80,000 in about 3-4 years.

How much community support do you have? You say it's a small school how big is the town population wise. The raffle ideas are good, but if it's a small town, especially if it's in a rural area you might be hard pressed to sell enough tickets to make it worth your time and effort.
There are some important questions you have to ask before getting started
What do we need updated at the stadium? What do we want updated? What timeline are we looking at from implementaiton to completion? What might be the approximate cost? Is it feasible to raise the funds with 1 big fundraiser or do we need multiple smaller fundaraisers throughout the year? How much community support is there for your program? Who is a stakeholder do you have a marching band/Soccer/Lacrosse or other sports/organizaitons that also use the field?
I've seen success with alot of joint fundraisers where there is a common goal and you are not just splitting the money up into programs. We got new facilities not that long ago through the good graces and a hefty donation from our local professional sports teams that have benefited Football, Boys and Girls Soccer, Jr High Football, Little League football, Semi-Pro football, Our Baseball programs and a Minor League Team, we also rent the field out for other schools/organizations to use.
Selling bricks working with alumni and boosters is big, are there any notable alumni who can put a face to your cause that are respected in the community?

You may look to the city or local park and rec for some financial help. The pro is that a great facility could be built for the betterment of the city. Con It may create a lot more use of the stadium. That always leads to dead grass.
