The proliferation of message boards has added a new concern for football coaches. Used to be, the discgruntled masses could meet at the loclal donut shop and fix all the problem of the world. WIth the internet message board now you anyone can air their dirty laundry for all to see.
You can biss and moan to your heart's content - and lie without recrimination - all in the interest of getting rid of the local coach.
there is a current tirade about my staff in one of the local sites - wish I could get myself to not get on the site but seems like i'm drawn like a moth to a flame.
guess my concern is not that I change the mind of the jerks that write on the site but that others, including players see the diatribes on their programs.
wish it would stop but I don't see that happening -- OK rant for the day is over.... good news is I'm going to a football clinic today!

I dealt with that battle about a year ago.. less about coaching.. but about some personal issues dealing with my wife being a former student at the school I coached at. I am 29 and she is 25.
Like you, I could not stay off of there.. but I refused to put anything up there that would fuel the fire..

People are never going to be happy! They like to have something to complain about. The local football coach is an easy target.
If you are winning, then you are not doing it the right way. If you are losing, then you are the worst coach on the face of the earth.
Most of them wish they were you, because you doing something that you love, and then aren't.

Bulllies, cyberstalkers, hypocrites, liars, slanderers, folks who are wussy like and hiding behind bogus identities (ie child molesters) are drawn to those forums where they can say what they like with a captive audience. Someone once mentioned that its not much different than grafitti on a public restroom stall. do you read that stuff?

"Like a moth led to the flame" Good one.
Air Raider had a little issue last year. I actually went to the site and told them to go jump in the lake and told them he was a good coach. Even gave them my phone number they could call. One person actually called, but the coward hung up. Good times!

It's a given: stupid people are going to find a medium for saying stupid things. It's just the way it is; let them talk all they want. As long as you aren't doing anything stupid or illegal, all of their complaining will amount to NOTHING. If you need some relief, log onto one of the boards that has nothing to do with you and read the stupid things that are written. You will see what the average person sees on those boards; idiots being idiots.
If you do feel the need to get on those boards and say something; call the people out. Tell them to meet you somewhere locally and repeat the things they've saying to your face.
I did the very same thing to a group of parents I overheard complaining in a restaurant several years ago. They were talking about the coaching staff, so I walked over and asked them to repeat exaclty what they were saying to my face. Funny how none of them wanted to call me a "f-ing idiot coach" to my face.

This board has its share of really stupid people. 2% of the people make 98% of the stupid comments. Some are just down right creepy. As a matter of fact, I would venture to say that there has never been an internet forum that hasnt had some share of drama for their mamas.
