-A 6'3" 185 Fresh. QB who has a rocket of an arm, decent accuracy, and good mobility.
-A Receiving Core that may have 1 good receiver in the bunch (good meaning has natural ability to catch the ball but no route running skills) (a soph). Not much else in WRs.
-A Running Back Core that consists of 2 decent running backs but nothing special to write home to (one is a junior, the other is a soph). One is a hard-nose runner while the other is a decent athlete with potential not yet realized (only a soph. tho). Have other RBs but none that are really good.
-A OLine that consists of 3 returners...........one is 6'2 250, second is 6'4 230, third is 6'4 180. Two are guards with good mobality the other is a center. The T's that we start next year are around the 230 range.
What are your thoughts on what offense you would run with this personnel??

Route running is not a skill.. it is a learned behavior.. catching also leans towards this.. running a 4.5 forty.. that is more of a skill.. take those Ok running backs and make receivers out of them.. put the hardnosed kid in the backfield with the QB.. and run the QB and the back.. and make the athlete back one of those receivers..
Put that 6'4 180 kid out wide..

What offense will you run WITHOUT those kids. Injuries, grades, transfers are all highly probably and graduation/end of eligibility is GUARANTEED. If you decided to run __________ offense, because of your 6'3 rocket armed next greatest thing quarterback, then that means all of your drills for the QB, RB, WR, and OL are based on that offense. Should that kid get hurt, get bored, get stupid, or get lost...what then? (NOTE, this can be said about any above combination of your players, not just the QB).
Coach, I think you are going about this the wrong way...just my opinion.

Route running is not a skill.. Put that 6'4 180 kid out wide.. Route running can be perfekted with drills, but a kid who runs routes "naturally" is skilled!! On the 6'4 180 kid I have to agree he is going to be dominating out there, try to get him in 1 vs 1 matchups and he will do anything for you!

Run an offense that has the ability to take advantage of those players but does not require them in order to be successful.

I agree run an O that you are comfortable with. Personally I would run the West Coast Offense, due to the fact I think you have the personal for this and it is the offense I feel the most comfortable with. This O can use all of your players skills. The offense obviously throws a lot so you are using your QB’s plus they are mainly short passes so easier passes to catch. Plus you can line one of your backs at FB (the hard nosed kid) and one at RB. Plus this O used both of these kids in the passing game a lot, also this O usually works best with small athletic lineman.

Run an offense that fits the team and can be flexible for the ever changing player pool.

i think you should coach what you know... run YOUR base offense, now there is room within this to adapt to best fit your players but if you start running something you dont know, you wont have success with it. You will not now the adjustments you need to make in games.

My favorite is the I with Offset I running primarily Power, lead, belly, open and slam; with a lot of play action. I now run the TF system, as I do not have the kids to be successful with the a fore mentioned system.

Yeah, the biggest thing is what do you want to be - a system guy or an adaptable guy?
It sounds like you want to be adaptable, so with that personnel I'd run a version of spread and let your hard nosed guy be your one back, and turn the other back into a receiver and pair him with the one good receiver you have and run combo routes with those two. Then you have your spread run game with the athletic QB and hard nosed running back. If you have a kid that is 6'4 180 playing tackle, he obviously isn't too athletic or you need him there, so the spread would allow you to take pressure off of your o-line as well in terms of blocking assignments and not having to maul people on every play.

Agree with all that said coach what you know. Whatever offense you install has aspects that can/should be emphasized or deemphasized based on personnel. But don't resist the temptation to be an offense de jour-type.

I agree with everyone who says "don't change your freaking offense just becuase of a couple of intersting spikes / declines in personnel types." Make logical adaptations to your existing system that highlight the strengths and hide the weaknesses of your personnel. Make sure it's something that is sound enough and flexible enough to be adapted year after year or in unique situations.
That's about it!

I can't tell if that was supposed to be a joke or not...
I think what I'm saying is...if you are a 2 RB "Pro-style" team, you might want to...
1. Install a 3 WR package if you have a weaker TE or 3 WR's that you feel really strongly about one particular year
2. Install a 2 TE package if you have 2 very good TE's that year
3. Put your Z down in a WB position if he happens to be a good ballcarrier and blocker that season
Or just doing basic stuff like:
1. I have a QB who is good on the run this year. We're going to scrap our 5-step package and put in some waggle and roll-out stuff.
2. Our FB this year is really more of a converted TB, so maybe we look to get him the ball more in the run game and get away from some of our plays where he is blocking huge defenders
3. We have a smaller, more athletic OL this year, so we're going to focus more on traps and G-schemes rather than man and inside zone blocking.
I don't think this implies a "grab bag." I think what it means is that you can tweak things and not wholesale change.
"Hey, we're not going to have a great QB next year, so I'm going to scrap the spread and go with Single Wing"
"We don't have a true FB so I'm going to change from "I" to 4 and 5 wide gun."
To me, THAT's really poor coaching. Figure out a way to adapt your system to your incoming people. Don't just go with something someone at a clinic or on a message board sold you as a "magic bullet"

This is really a great point, not throwing out the entire offense, but making subtle changes.

Given the fact that we are not afforded recruits to recruit the kind of players we need to run a specific offense, we have to adapt our schemes to what we get.

None of you guys run a different offense every week?
shoot i knew a guy that :
week one= pro I week two= couldnt run in week one so it was pro I with three wides week three= couldnt pass in week two so it was shotgun spread in week three. week four= big splits allowed too much penetration so it was foot to foot power I in week four week five= no misdirection from the power I, so it was wing t in week five you get the idea.

Examine what kind of kids you usually get.... we are a blue collar school who gets the hardest working kids around but not of a lot of D1 kids.... Wing-T is a good fit and you can expand out of that if you have a special kid with some spread-T. Don't get caught chasing yourself each year on what to run.

If you have a solid line then you can run anything you want because it will make everyone better than what they really are! If your line is weak than I would go to spread because I know from experience that if your QB has tallent then it will let him showcase it and give him some room to make plays with his legs if he gets pressured and he will see the field better when throwing instead of getting mauled getting out from under center.
