Anyone see the Cardinals attempt the free kick at the end of the 1st half yesterday? Would have been like a 68 yd FG if he made it. Kind of neat to see that esp. after several players came out and said they had no idea about the OT rule in the NFL. Was cool to see someone take advantage of a rule most prob never knew existed. Now I wonder how many we will see in the next few weeks since every team is running the wild cat after the Fins did, gotta love the copy cat nature of the NFL

It actually isn't all that uncommon. That scenario is mentioned at least once or twice a year. The rarity is simply the circumstances all coming together...very little time left on clock, opponent not able to run out the clock, ball we be caught in a position where a kick is possible...

I just didn't know that you couldn't use a tee in the NFL.
I always wondered why more teams didn't do it right before the half. I guess I know now...without the tee your distance is really cut down.

I was watching...got a chuckle out of the kick from the kicker.
Looked like me teeing off on a par 5.

We practice that (free kick after FC) every year. Never really had a chance to use it (the timing was right once, but it was 49-0 right before half... no sense to it then).

I missed the game, what exactly happened? End of first half, Giants couldn't run clock out because the card's used their Timeouts. So they punt and Cards fair catch it. They take the option of a free kick from that spot. So its just like a kickoff except no tee and it counts if you make it through. So it was a 68 yard or 66 yard field goal, so whatever yardline that put them at. You have to cover it like a kickoff because they can return it. So basically the card's tried to kick it but the kicker totally shanked it and it got no height at all. looked like a squib kick about 10 feet off the ground. giants returned it about 15 yard, no harm no foul half was over.
