The Urban Meyer book is really good. I just finished it .. you can really see him growing as a a coach throughout the book. It has a lot in common with the Jim Tressell book actually The Winners Manual and Meyers' Plan to Win are very similar. Both great books.

tvt50: You will be impressed with the Last Lecture. Not only is it a great read but the items you can pull from it and be able to apply it to your team are impressive.

The Belicheck book so far has been very well worth the 16.00 or so it cost. Even more so when you remember when it was written.
I have always wondered about the Meyer book. You never know what you are going to get from books like that. I have a few I need to read over the holiday breaks.

He seemed to have spent a good deal of space discussing the need to come up with a system to identify the Flanker location because teams were splitting out ONE of their backs..and ..gasp..some teams even split out a BACK and an END. Just wondering how much of the info is completely outdated.

I bought the book. The book is a practical look at scouting. While offenses and defenses have changed, I think his organizational methods have stood the test of time and sreve as a practical guide to scouting. It is very detailed and I have already pulled some good ideas out of it.

Sounds like stuff that is so basic today, like trading movies anyway, I am enjoying the book just from the history aspect of it. Along those lines, I read the History of Yale Football (which is a basic history of football) by Carm Cozza. It was very interesting. He also autographed it for me ;D

Yes I have the book as well, and I think (hoping) that as I continue to read, the biggest benefits will be in the methodology and structure. Like I said, I just forgot the era when I made the purchase, and was kind of concerned when I him discussing how they need to deal with A (singular) flanker.

It is the methods that are important. The fact he refers to 1 flanker or the single wing should not make any type of difference. Now some of the practices are common today of course but I still think there is plenty to learn. I never thought of using a pass distrubution of how many times the ball is thrown to certain parts of the field.

"Finding the Winning edge" by Walsh was a lot better than Genius to me and it is very practical.. Tons of stuff you can apply.

Lgoody,
I know it is expensive, but I actually got it through interlibrary loan. I got it a couple of weeks after I put in the request but it was worth not shelling out the cash for it.
Well I did have a pretty good late fee.....
