NO WAY!
ESPN keeps most of us old meatheads sane from January to August...it's more than just background noise during sex
I could do without PTI (2 bonesheads talking smack about everything and pointless arguing) and Jim Rome...
BTW- Mayne Street is hilarious and needs to be shot as a full-on 30 min show

I love that there are games on about every night but I have to watch them with the TV muted or I will break stuff.
Erin Andrews needs to wear a bikini and shut up.

Kornheiser... Rome...Dan Patrick....
*shudders*
Guys like these are why I don't like talking football with anybody besides current or former coaches. Because everyone thinks they're an expert, but in reality must have ESPN and NFL Network tell them what goes on in a game. I mean really, how many articles and specials on TV networks have you seen the past few years on Cover 2? I'm all for spreading knowledge of the game (I wanna be a coach!), but when you think you're an expert on defense because you can spit out the most basic of information on the Cover 2 which you learned watching ESPN, that's when I get pissed.

I think ESPN is great for the game. I'll admit some of their personalities are bad (Rome especially) but what TV station does it better?

"Outside the Lines" is one of the best sports-themed shows on TV.
I admittedly haven't watched SportsCenter since Olbermann and Kilborn where there and I really don't care for the "PTI"-style shows, but it is hard to argue against a network that has some kind of football on every night.

I have a soft spot for those Lou Holtz pep talks (which it looks like they replaced with those ridiculous Dr Lou things) and PTI is sometimes a guilty pleasure (I enjoy Wilbon more than Kornheiser, but I don't think he's the worst person ever, certainly not the worst on ESPN.) The other stuff can go.
And I agree with tog. Give me 100 ESPNs. If they have to fill their day-time and weekday programming with all these jokers, then fine, so long as they put more games on when they play them.

Yes ESPN is concerned with two things. 1. Highlights......When is the last time you saw a big 3rd down run stuff or a pancake block. This does a lot of damage to kids, IMO. Lord knows, the TV is many parent's answer to actually dealing with their kids. All a young kid sees is touchdowns. How do they feel when they "have to" play the OLine...i.e. when they can't play QB 2. Controversy.....Tony Romo's girlfriend, Tom Brady's Doctor, TO's antics, fill-in-the-blank's holdout/trade demand. They don't cover anything remotely important or related to successful football programs. -------- So what does a young kid think is the right way to deal with controversy? ALL (because the only thing ESPN covers is controversy) Professional athletes deal by pouting (holding out) & complaining (talking to Media about coach/teammate). These are the kids' role-models. They do show lots of football games, but most kids are watching the highlights, NOT the games. As for all the dumba$$ talking heads who think they know something, they do way more damage to "dads" than kids.

I personally can't stand a lot of ESPN, I'll watch games on ESPN, ESPN 2, ESPN U, etc. I hate the commentary in monday night football or sunday night. I don't watch the TV programs on ESPN because i find them SO annoying. I do enjoy listening to MLB over the radio though, its so boring to watch.

I love the games and the coverage of the games on ESPN. I watch PTI every day. I can't stand sportscenter anymore, I used to live and breathe it but its far too commercialized now. Coor Light Cold Hard Facts, Budweiser Hot Seat, etc, etc, etc.

I love that they show a lot of games, but I hate that during the games I have to hear about what they ate, or where they stayed during the game. During the GA Tech/Miami game last night, they talked about the crew swimming outside at the hotel, who cares.
I am also tired of hearing about Chad Johnson and seeing Drew Rosenhaus on tv.

The extensive game coverage is great, but the content of what they say continues to decline. The goal of their broadcasts should be to educate while entertaining. Unfortunately, the quality of their content gets weaker and weaker every year. This is especially so with football. Even on their college football shows the analysts they bring in are fundamentally horrible. Consider Todd McShay, for example. What are his credentials? He made a comment the other day comparing Graham Harrell to Sam Bradford and the offenses they run that was fundamentally at its core incorrect. He speaks from this position of authority, yet it is evident that he, the talking head who is paid to know this stuff, does not understand the differences between what OU and TTech do on offense. The guy actually said that Tech runs no-back stuff and that OU is more of a pro style offense. This is what frames public opinion. Tech never runs out of empty; Franklin does at times, but not Leach. OU's current offense, which is an athleticized version of what Kevin Wilson ran at Northwestern a number of years ago, runs more empty than Tech.

I believe Mcshay was a QB or DB at Richmond but I don't think he played much. I think there best analyst is Bill Curry

Love ESPN 360 since I get to watch games live or on replay that I wound not get to. I like having ESPN U and 2 just for the choice or the extra games.
PTI I liked as a radio show. Can not stand Rome.
Past the a college game I do not watch it. I watched the game last night on mute. I did use to love watching Monday Night Match up when I was in middle/high school. Learned a good deal of basic stuff. I am a sucker for shows that breakdown film. I wish there were more college shows like that. It is amazing at times how clueless the talking heads are.

You've got to love ESPN for showing the mid-level teams during the week, not to mention ESPN2, ESPN U, etc.
Kenny Mayne is a moron. I havent' seen Mayne Street, but I don't think I could stand hearing his voice for more than a minute before my head exploded. Is it that funny?
I've heard the idea that ESPN and it's constant pimping of highlight hits and TD's is ruining America's children. I don't buy it, but it seems to be a common perception.

I must be the minority here. I like PTI, Around the horn, I'll catch Rome sometimes. I just take it all with a grain of salt. I realize they are broadcasting to a general audience, not a coaching body. Its a lot better than watching america's funniest home video re-runs or endless hours of reality TV.

I like PTI when Kornheiser and Wilbon are on together. They have a chemistry that I find amusing. I have to admit that I have to like a show that ends with "We'll try to do better tomorrow".
I watch Mike and Mike and generally like it (what's the competition? Good Morning America?) but at least once a day I want to reach through the screen and Patton-slap Greenie.
I watch games that interest me or in which I have a rooting interest. I barely notice the announcers.
It seems that as the season goes on I'm less interested in watching football on TV just to watch football. I'm intently interested in the games that I care about ( the Packers, Penn State, and Virginia Tech). The others may be on and I'll look up at times.
As for pregame shows, I find College Gameday amusing sometimes but it's usually just white noise. NFL pregame shows? I'd rather watch a movie.

I enjoy VIEWING ESPN, LISTENING to it is a completely different story.... There are Saturdays during college football season where I feel like Helen Keller; I mute my TV and the silence is deafening.
The problem with ESPN, Sports Illustrated, and ESPN Mag is that they produce generation upon generation of ignorant, stupid, know-it-all fans. The sport's writers spew out non-sense that wouldn't even have a place in a "Football For Dummies" book written by a brain damaged chimpanzee.

Espn is awesome, although I will agree it used to be better. I remember how I couldn't wait for sportscenter. Now, as someone above mentioned, it's not nearly as good as it was long ago. Watch a little Mike and Mike. PTI and ROME suck. But I order all of the ESPN's that I can get for the GAMES... and more chances to see Erin Andrews. Her mouth is moving but I can't hear a dang thing. Too many thoughts running through my mind.
