Tentboy, there are all kinds of 4-2's out there. First play you should look, or the first to talk to is Brophy. Although he is a very unusual character, he is an excellent and successful coach. sitekreator.com/brophy/main_page.htmlOther 4-2's are from the "G" defense, and some are a 4-3 with a Nickel in place of the Sam or Will. My ideas came from my early years with the old 6-2/6-1 Invert defense of the late 1970's. Combined with some things I learned from Brophy along with 4-3Miami line rules. Kinda' nuts I know, but aren't we all? OJW

what sets the "G" apart from other 44 or 425 defenses? alignment. and being really gay.one man's 42 is another's 44, which is someone else's wide-tackle, etc...... Before you 'pick a defense', you should figure out what you want it to DO first. The defense you end up with will be whatever you want to call it.

I like the defense in brophy's bottom right corner, are least he looks PHYSICAL and prepared to PUNISH or BE PUNISHED.

Let me add, you might want to make sure you have the personnel to run whatever defense you chose. Brophy stated #1- what are you facing every week and will the defense you pick have easy adjustments for for your kids to formations, motions, etc. Then as I stated, you need to make sure that you will have the athletes to put on the field to execute the defense.

I am thinking of going with a 4-2-5 defnese next year becuase of personal. What are some strengths and weaknesses you have gone through if any of you run it? PS - there are over 50 threads in the defense section about how folks run their different types of "nickel". You might have to dig, but look up PSS/wolfdc, Vass, Bark77, Outlawjoseywales, etc.....tons of stuff (video, links, pics, articles)

I have heard that the series does a great job with practice video with drills and such.. I would try to trade for them, but its not on my dime.. and might be hard to trade for all 7 videos.. I have viewed the Todd Quick previews and they are decent.. a little too advanced for us.. too much on different pressures and not enough on the bare bone basics..

Virgina Tech still runs a form of the G. When talking to there staff the "G" front means that you are covering the G. The front is 7, 3, 2i, 5. The LB are in a 40 and 20.

Their front hasn't changed much but they do play a lot more 2-safety looks. They have the same problem as us- they don't see as much 2-back offense so they can't play their trademark Robber coverage.

Ha I'm always a fan of an Arrested Development reference, though I never thought I'd see a defense compared to Tobias

South Carolina runs a 4-2-5, try to get some film on them, they were 3rd ranked defense in the country until the Florida game.

After looking over what I have, it's a defensive playbook, I think from 1999, not %100 sure though...Just shoot me PM if you would like it, don't worry about trading, I will give it away....
