Does anyone know the full technique that Tiki Barber used when carrying the football? I have noticed many Nfl players using this. Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge!

I believe it is just simply holding it with four points, hand over the nose of the ball, forearm, bicep, chest.

I thought this thread was going to be about throwing your former head coach and QB under the bus, trying to impress people with big words, and looking like a horse's a$$ by quitting on your team and missing out on an NFL Championship...

We call it 5 points, 2 fingers over nose of ball, forearm, bicep, and pec.

Tiki had a reputation for fumbling the ball; this is why is he well-known for the technique he adopted later in his career of carrying the ball higher than most.

The points listed above are right. I prefer this technique and its what I teach. When you hold the ball high and tight its damn hard to fumble. If someone hits you from behind the ball just goes forward into your hand. If they hit you from in front the ball is just pushed back into your chest.

High and tight.. The thing is he never switched hands he would just hold his wrist. I think its kinda hard for a smaller arm kid... It helps to have guns.

Keep your wrist above your elbow and when you run you almost uppercut yourself in the chin, rubbing the ball tightly across your chest.

It kind of looks like a Praying Mantis. Our Wingback used it last year with great success.

One thing he started doing to cure his fumble problem was that once contact was made and he was going to the ground, he would grab the wrist of the ball carrying arm, with the non-carrying arm, to prevent any contact being made on the ball and to prevent the ball from going anywhere.

Solution for reducing fumbles is keeping your pad level low and squeezing the ball

Don't know if it has a name, but I've heard one coach refer to it as "rubbing the tit raw with the ball". Carried high, nose up, eagle claw grip on the nose, against the pec muscle, or shoulder pad rather. Also have seen John Rathman (sp?) coach a "4 points of contact" technique...eagle claw grip on nose, against the forearm, bicep, and rib cage, always in contact close to the body.

Here's a pic, but it's not Tiki...Eddie Gran coaches this too.

I remember him describing it in an interview on ESPN once. High , tight and with the nose of the ball up , this doesn't allow it to be stripped from behind. The elbow is squeezed into the body so there's no opening underneath. This also prevents him from dropping the ball, in the event he loses his grip...I teach it this way, since I saw the interview
