Fulmer is a victim of his own medicine. 19 years ago some said Johnny Majors was getting stale and an assistant who was full of himself did everything he could to get the guy who gave him his first big time gig shown the door. Well, what comes around goes around.
That said, it was time. UT is stale and regardless of what one thinks of Fulmer as a person, the program needs a breath of fresh air.
I doubt Coach Cutt will even get an interview. In some ways I would say that Cut is too pure of a coach for that job. One of the reasons he got canned at Ole Miss was the perception that he was not a good recruiter, that he was not a salesman, and was not especially good with the alums, which, unfortunately, matter a lot. For the same reasons even a proven winner, such as Mike Leach, for example, will never be considered for that job. Frankly, if I were Leach I would not even want it.

Leach is the message board favorite right now.

Sure Leach is the favorite now, but he is a peculiar interview. I'm not sure that a guy like him would work in the South. He's just too different.

I think mike leach is on everyone's short list after Saturday night.
I wonder why everyone thinks he will just pick up and go. He has built a program and beating texas only helps recruiting.

I agree, Airman. Why leave Tech?
I think Leach stays put.

Leach has flirted with teams in the past. He really wanted the Miami Florida job a couple of years ago.
He'd be silly to go to say, Washington. Tennessee is intriguing. Dunno where he wants to be geographically; seems like a southwest kinda guy, though he coached at Valdosta in Georgia and at Kentucky for a long while.

Boy, I hate myself for this because it's not Xs and Os but here goes. What's so great about Tennessee? It's a middling recruiting state with a rabid fan base. Lots of pressure without the resources. Really, how is it a better job than Washington?

i hope that leach doesn't go there. i don't think he would fit in well there. My question is do they go after muschamp or a hot shot spread guy ala florida and meyer.

What do you mean "without the resources"? I would like to hear what you classify as resources, because the facilities are great at UT. They are comparable if not better to any team in the SEC/Big 12 etc.

OK, I agree with that statement. When we were winning games, there were many players from LA, FLA, CA, TX and other states, very few from TN.

Although Leach is one of my favorite coaches I don't think he's the right fit for UT.
UT has always recruited nationally, always had to. That's virtually the #1 requirement for the job, being a top notch recruiter.

I agree, Airman. Why leave Tech? I think Leach stays put. Because now Tech people are going to want more than 8 or 9 wins, and I don't see that ANY coach can maintain that at Tx Tech over time. Leach probably has as talented a team as he'll ever have this season...and the way things are in college football today, he'll create a standard he can't live up to every year. Same reason Tuberville is on the hot seat just 3 seasons off an undefeated season and SEC championship, and an 11 win season in '06. Tubs suddenly got "football stupid" I guess. Not saying it's right, but it is the way it is. If I were Leach, I'd get that big $2-$4 Mil a year gig, make my fortune and go from there. Whoever said Leach wouldn't make it in the south is likely dead on. Although, I could see him at Clemson in the ACC.

OK, I agree with that statement. When we were winning games, there were many players from LA, FLA, CA, TX and other states, very few from TN. Due to the state of TN HS football, UT has historically made it's living recruiting nationally, and like LSU, Alabama, and Auburn, raiding MS of it's best players. And GA has more than enough to feed just UGA. Florida too...but UT has always had players from California, TX, OK as well...many feel that may be one reason for such spotty success the last few years...though the fans are rabid, the players don't have that same love for UT like you see from players on Auburn, Bama, LSU who grew up fans of the school they attend.

I am almost certain I heard/read that Tenn has the largest recruiting budget in the nation.
That said, I don't know if I would leave Ttech for Tenn. Ttech's expectations are being set by Leach. The school has a winning percentage of .555, and Leach is currently at a .666clip. He needs only 2 or 3 more wins to become the all time coach in wins at Ttech (passing Coach Cawthorne from the 1930's)
UTenn on the other hand, has a winning percentage .697, the majority of which is made of Robert Neyland, Johnny Majors and Phil Fulmer teams. In todays climate, where the players are looking out for #1, being a "big time" program is not what it is cracked up to be... and as mentioned, UT doesn't have a top tier recruiting base.

Tubs suddenly got "football stupid" I guess. In the sense that he "committed" to Franklin's version of the Air Raid in a supremely half-assed manner, you are exactly correct.

Leach has flirted with teams in the past. He really wanted the Miami Florida job a couple of years ago. It's the Pirates! You'd think he was a major fan of Florida teams for that reason. Is Valdosta anywhere near Florida's panhandle?

I would agree 100%, except that during the interview process Tubs told Franklin the deal and what he wanted, and Franklin took the job instead of telling Tubs he'd run his offense at Auburn or stay at Troy. That's by Franklin's own admission.

Anybody know what kind of offense Kiffin runs? I'm assuming it's some form of the USC/Chow offense that probably got tweaked after he went to Oakland. But I don't know that much about it.
