Serra High School (Northern CA, West Catholic League) is pretty dang good. I don't know that I would say that they are best in the country for all high school teams, but I think that they belong in the conversation of 30 stack teams. Their record is 4-3 so far in the season, but that includes a 29-28 loss to De La Salle and a 23-21 loss to another area powerhouse Valley Christian. They also just beat Bellarmine Prep, a DW team that was recently the favorite to play in the CA Bowl. Here is the league's calprep page: www.calpreps.com/2008/6_West_Catholic.htm

Thanks Coach! Im not sure how popular this defense is yet, and since I started exploring it, Im just trying to see who's REALLY good at it.

I think this is kind of a subjective argument because if the teams dont' play each other then who knows who the best is. I'm not a big fan of who is the best (fill in the black) at this in the nation. Things differ too much from state to state and the teams never play. That being said, I don't know if they are a best in the nation kind of deal but I know that Kimberly high school in Kimberly WI runs one heck of a 30 stack and they haven't been beat in 2 years.

Coach - Im from Wisconsin, I know of Kimberly well!!
I guess you are right with your "nations best" thought, but I'm looking for really good teams that are top teams in their state running the stack.

Edgewater HS in Orlando, FL is very good at running it. they went to three straight 6A championship games, plus 9 straight playoff appearances. Until this year when they changed up their Offense. Chip Gierke is the DC there.

We ran it and gave up quite a few points with it. The 33 stack is a nice defense, simple in terms of alignment but certainly no magic bullet. Of course it does not matter which defense one aligns in if the team is out run and tackles poorly to boot.
One of our biggest issues is the spurs, reading the run or pass quickly and making a difference. I am not sure we had the right kinds of kids for those positions. We also missed many tackles in the second and third levels. Also, if we were not pinching our des or blitzing hard inside then we often gave up "simple plays" in terms of teams running dives for good yardage (4-5 and 6 even).
I do not believe in "defense of the week" coaching and plan to learn more about the 33 stack and how to coach it and play it with less than superior athletes.
