Well our first 5 games were like murderer's row and our last 5 are cupcakes compared to them. We sit at 1-4 but the district is wide open and if we can get on a roll we could be playing our cross-town rival for a district championship the last week of the season.
Our defense has improved every week and when we finally stopped putting the ball on the ground the offense has started to click. We had a great off-week of practice (best since I've been here) and we play the bottom dwellers of the district on friday. How do we relay to the kids that this is our second chance? What will it take to get them to believe they have a chance to win this thing?
Everyone on the staff is optimistic and the kids are starting to have fun.

Just what you said...
"Our defense has improved every week and the offense has started to click."
Get them believing that and the importance of improvement every day and the games will take care of themselves.
We are in a similar situation and our kids can see this so they believe.
