I was wondering what the rules are for throwing the ball away are in your state. I always thought it was ok for the QB to throw the ball away if he was outside of the pocket and threw it past the line of scrimmage. Yet we had this penalty thrown on us when we did this last night. If your state does not allow your QB to throw the ball away what do you tell your QB so that he does not take a sack and also so he does not force the ball into coverage. Do you tell him still to just get rid of the ball and hope they don’t call and if they do oh well because that would have been the result with the sack, or do you say something else?

I believe that is an NFL rule. I know it is not a Fed rule which is what 95% or so play by. Most of the time you can get it close enough to someone that it is not a penalty. When it happens find someone and throw it at their feet or jack it over their head out of bounds.
