ok here's the situation. I don't have a ton of coaching experience like some of you but I did OC for 3 yrs for my nephews team. My older brother was the HC. Our teams did fairly well. Not great but always over .500.
I know have a son playing he is 8 yrs old playing on a 8-10 team. HC has been coaching for some time. Assistance all seem to be fairly new. 4 assistance all have there sons playing on the team. 2 of them are very talented. 1 plays QB other plays HB both 10 yrs old. The other 2 coaches sons play wingback and MLB. These are the type of kids I call Butterfly chasers. I don't have a problem with how my son is utilized or anything like that, he is playing RB and doesnt get the ball much but at 8 yrs old and the youngest on his team this year I didnt expect many carries or receptions. Problem is the coaches don't seem to coach. They spend about 20% of the practice warming up. The kids have no idea who to block. If someone lines up across from them they block them, if not they kinda just stand up and look around. I want to say something to the coach but just want to make sure it comes across the right way. I know in my past coaching experience you have the 2-3 fathers that disagree with everything you do, "I don't want to be that guy". How can I express my feelings the appropriate way to get my point across?
Just another question? How often should a team be scrimmaging? We are at about 25-30%. Being we only practice twice a week for 2 hours I would think this should be limited.
Personal question for my son - Like i said earlier he is 8 yrs old and 64 lbs. He has players on his team that are 10 yrs old and 110 lbs. Biggest guy is 130 lbs. He is very fast and quick. 2nd fastest on his team. When he is in the open field he is hard to tackle and has no problem. Problem is when he is getting ready to take a hit he stops, doesnt lower his shoulder. Any suggestions? I want to get him more aggressive?
I appreciate any feedback.
Thanks
