I am having a hard time at practice. The head coach has specific days set aside for defense and offense. Most of my better players go both ways, so when the offense is running plays against the defense, they look better than what they really are because the defense is limited in talent and this is the same when it is the other way around and defense is the priority. We only had 2 scrimmage games, and our first game was yesterday. We lost 15-0, I run the GAM and we were competetive, but I really wish our practices were a little bit more competetive. I'm pretty sure it is the same way with your teams as far as a lot of kids going both ways. How do you do it?

Depending on your blocking scheme and the style of offense you run, (half line) might be an effective alternative to full scrimmages?.......if you have a large team and enough coach's, you could have two groups of half line going at the same time......we tried to think it thru position wise, so the kids were playing their normal positions on offense and defense.......in our particular case.....I liked having the better linemen on the left while on offense and the same defensively(best linemen and olb's to the opposing offense's rt. side).......so this worked out good for us......if we ran the left side halfline......the kids on defense were playing their normal side position(rt. side), same for the other side.....the QB's/ R-backs played their normal defensive positions(LB's and CB's usually), and subbed in on offense when we changed sides.....same with the 2 centers......we normally had 2 dedicated defensive players at the safety's.....who just came in, as their half line was on defense.....I liked it better than a full scrimmage cause you could see so much more.....still do a little technique coaching on the run......get a bunch of kids playing(not much standing around)......it was also kind of a competitive team building deal ,as each side tried to outdue the other. I hope I didn't confuse you, with this? Might come across clear as mud, lol? good luck los
