Hey guys, hope nobody minds the shameless plug but I wrote a piece for the college football blog Every Day Should Be Saturday (EDSBS) sort of previewing the Clemson vs. Alabama game this weekend. I say sort of because I tried to just look at the coaching matchup, and even that was hard since both guys do lots of different things (and, as I mention, who outschemes the other guy, if that's even possible, is likely not going to determine who actually wins). But hopefully people find it a helpful read. I got some tidbits off this site, and hemlock from here helped me with some of the Rob Spence stuff, so I'm much indebted for that. Either link below works: www.everydayshouldbesaturday.com/2008/08/26/smart-football-on-clemsonalabama/smartfootball.blogspot.com/2008/08/coaching-preview-alabamas-nick-saban-vs.html

Awesome job. Very simple, yet good read for DC's!
So the Tide is going to win, right? JK.

It was a joke. The Clemson DC picked a poor time to make a joke. Yeah...and he picked the wrong school to make cheating accusations against. Bama has been through plenty of that over the years.

I'm not a Clemson fan, although I have visited there and they tell me that I had a good time. The remarks were out line, for sure, especially since he named players by name. When you read the comments in context, though, it's clear that he's joking however badly.

I hate to hijack Spread's thread but.....
Those two kids were very highly regarded. Now the Scott kid's head coach is saying "He (Koenning) better not step back on our campus."
Obviously he's got some patching up to do.

Thanks, great write-up, Chris. I enjoyed the info and background on Rob Spence. Also, I like watching and studying Vic Koenning, who was the DC at Troy coaching guys like Demarcus Ware and Osi Umenyiora, and runs some Cover 2 variations similar to what Monte Kiffin does at Tampa out of both 4-3 and 3-4 fronts. It should be an interesting game.
If Spence becomes a HC, what do you think he will run on Offense?

This also works after you get the job. So I don't really know. My best guess is he would stick with something like what he does now though maybe mix some things up with a bit more advanced passing game.

He kinda seems like an Indy car driver racing 4x4 trucks in the mud at Clemson. I guess we'll have to wait and see. I think if Clemson gets over the hump and has a big year, then he and Koenning will definitely get some looks at some HC jobs this off-season.

So much for Clemson having a big year. Some programs have the talent, but lack heart, determination, and toughness. Clemson is one of those teams. It seems every year they get beat by a Duke or somebody. They were totally unprepared last night. Safe to say Bowden is back on the hot seat.
