So maybe we are doing it wrong or something but I was just noticing today that the guys are sweating and ruining the sheets in the band. The ink has completely run and a lot of it is un-readable. Other than replace the sheet and put a piece of card stock in there all the time anything we can do to stop that?

Laminate them??
Also use a laser printer instead of inkjet as the laser printer pages are less prone to running when wet.

yeah never thought of the laser or laminate. We don't use the bands much so was looking for some ideas thanks.

Are there actually two strips of the plastic film and instead of putting it between them, you're putting the card under both?

we use the clear plastic protector sheets (slide them to a bottom corner so that two sides are sealed already) and cut them to match your wrist band and then just use some scotch tape to seal the ends.

I got into a bind once when our lamination machine went down and used 3" wide clear packaging tape to cover our play cards. It worked great! and was cheap and easy. We use 110 lb card stock for the cards and I now keep several sheets of Avery self lamination sheets on hand just in case.

You can buy a small pocket laminator for about $25. They use pre-made pockets designed to be used with the laminator(that's what makes it a pocket laminator. It doesn't fit in your pocket,). You slide the card into the pocket and feed the pocket into the machine. Very quick and easy and pretty cheap. The card-size pockets that I use for defense are about $3 for 20. For offense you may want bigger pockets. They make them. They're a little more expensive but still pretty cheap.

You can also do what I had to do when our school laminator stopped working. (like most people in the office)
I bought clear contact paper and covered both sides.
Cheap, requires a little work, but that's why it's cheap.

ditto on the packing tape, that worked pretty well for us too.
this year we broke the bank and went to the laminator, we bought the 8.5 x 11 size one so that we can get about 6 cards per page to speed up the process (however cutting them out is time consuming too).
the pain in the butt is changing what's on the cards every so often. a couple words of advice, make up two sets of cards initially, then laminate them and be done with it so you can just switch out the cards every week or two weeks to change up the calls so scouts dont pick up on it.
also, try to do the special things (motion, route adjustments, or tags) via hand signal to ONLY those who need the pertinent (sp?) information. this way you dont take up valuable space on that card.
one more point would be to give new or special play a NAME that the guys memorize. this way you can just yell out "slammer" and the kids run the play. this is where you get into making new cards all the time (week after week). this is what drove me crazy last year, so now we are going to try to stay as true the initial bands we made as possible (especially if you arent comfortable letting someone else create the bands, I created ours and had sole control of it because I had to make sure they were dead on, didnt want to have someone else to blame).
sorry for the rant, just some advice coming from a 2nd year wristband user.

Thanks guys great suggestions! We're not putting the plays on it more like the rules for some "challenged" linemen  who are new to their positions, they seem to sweat a bit more and ruin them quicker but it looks like I don't have to worry about that much any more. |

Use card stock. Then cut out the individual bands. Then laminate them. Then cut them from laminated sheet leaving a small waterproof edge.

Ha, great minds think alike. I think I mentioned this last year, but we use the packing tape as well for the cards. Most laminating machines don't seal well enough and sweat leaks into the paper. Also, if you print them and are in extreme temperatures (like AZ), the ink will melt and imprint everything on the plastic cover. So when we put the card back in there is this double impression that makes it really tough to read. And, if they are for linemen, expect to replace msot of them each year...the bigs simply destroy and loosen the bands throughout the season.
