I like to carry a pencil, practice plan & a note card to write or draw on. I dont like clip boards or those boxy paper holders ( I usually set it down then have to run to get it when I need it). Ive always tucked the paper in the waist band of my shorts and a pencil in my pocket. By the end of practice the sweat from my dunlap usually ruins the paper (I have plastic sleeves but I always forget to grab one). Anyone have a convienient, easy to carry, easy to access practice plan holder / pencil holder / note card holder?

This won't help because I do the same thing that you do. I keep a 3 ring binder with our opponents plays in it to show the scout team offense. I keep my practice plan and script in it as well. This part might help........there is always one kid that doesn't practice because he is hurt. He is in charge of the binder and is always near me. As soon as I walk up the hill, I find him, hand it to him, call him coach, and tell him he is in charge of the binder today. It amuses me and keeps me from losing it.

I put my practice plans, scripts, and a pen into plastic page covers, then hook them onto the ring of a retractable key ring (the kind that hooks on to your belt or waistaband, and the chain pulls out to arm's length.) I have been using this for 7 or 8 years, and it would go on my list of things I can't do without. Without it, my clipboard would always be left somewhere on the practice field. They cost about $5, max.

I'm a clipboard kind of guy, but another coach I know puts any cards etc on a big key ring and clips them to a lanyard around his neck. I tried it but personally didn't care for it but he swears by it.

Unfortunately, they are quite rare, and can only be found at the collegiate level. LOL. What DLO describes is a good substitute.

I use a small fanny pack made for runners. it is big enought to 3x5 index card holder and two pencils but it is small and tight so it does not get in the way. you can fold your practice plan over it. I laminate my practice plans which keeps them from getting wet.
you can get this in the classifieds of runners magazines.

I use several plastic sleeves stapled together like a booklet to hold practice plans, attendance chart, play scripts, scout offense plays, etc. To keep this with me I use a water bottle waist belt, like the ones runners use. I always have it with me, I always get teased by the others, looks silly, but it works, don't have to lay aside my notes, they don't get wet from sweat. I will even use this for games. Try it.

plastic sleves, and a clipboard are a must, some times i carry the plan when i need to and others it is on the clipboars. As for the pencil i swithced to the mini sharpies and it clips to my whistle.

I use the plastic protection sheets and put a card stock sheet between the sheets of paper to give it a little rigidity. I then tuck it into the back of my shorts or pants for easy access. If I have to demonstrate something or play scout QB, I might take it out to avoid the embassment of it sliding all the way down my shorts! I have done this for over 20 years and feel naked without having it tucked in the back of my shorts. Some of the younger coaches have started to do the same thing now and we must look like a bunch of goofballs when we are together.

Just take your practice plan and copy-xerox it onto card stock. That way it holds up to the folding and wear and tear. You can use the plastic sleeves or laminate. I like the notebook with the kid but most of our spare bodies are on the scout team already

I used to carry am enclosed binder, but kept laying somewhere and would leave it overnight sometimes. I then purchased a smart phone (Treo 650) that I could pull up my attendance on excel or my blocking rules in word. I can type info in it on a to do list. Plus I need the phone because we share the trainer and he is often inside.
Paper in plastic sheets with a metal ring in the wasitband works well too.

I think they are called ticket holders. A very strong plastic cover that I tuck into the back on my pants to hold practice plans, depth carts for special teams, & other papers. 1 usually lasts the whole season.
I also use them to hold my all sheets for games. I think I'm still on my 1st one for that because I never look at it during a game.

another thing i do is get a box of golf pencils before the year starts. I put a couple in my pocket everyday because some knucklehead always comes unprepared (usually HFC). I generally just toss it everyday but who cares I got 500

I use the plastic sheets but I clip them to my whistle chain and attach a pen there as well.
