I was quoted a price of $69 each for 27 helmets. These are the ones that you can pump air into or let it out to get a proper fit. Is this a decent price? I am sorry for being ignorant but have never dealt with this end before.

What brand/style? Does that include facemask/hardware? What about chinstraps?

If that includes facemask and a real chin strap, not the single strap throwaway one many give you, that is a very good price.

The rec program director just showed me a JP Sports catalog that has the DNA helmets with facemask and chinstrap for $58. Plus 10% off of that.

That is most likely a DNA Recruit, which is similar in design to a Riddell Revolution Little Pro. The shell is the same but they are foam cell padded and do not utilize inflation.

Quality difference? Don't want my kids to get hurt just to safe a few bucks? Recommendation?

Any new helmet manufactured by a reputable company like Schutt or Riddell provides much more than adequate protection for youth football players, in my opinion. Our league utilizes primarily Riddell Little Pros and although I am fortunate enough to be able to afford any helmet made for my own son, he played in the same helmet provided to all kids in our league and I slept well every night.
The main advantage inflation offers is in fitting "tweeners" and kids with oddly shaped heads, and in having to carry less inventory. We do keep some inflation helmets in inventory for this purpose. Go with a middle of the line Schutt or Riddell and you'll be happy and your kids will be offered much more protection than hopefully they'll ever need.

Another point to make regarding youth helmets from is longevity. Certain helmets cant be refurbished. As a youth league, it can become very expensive to have to replace helmets every couple of years. Shutt does an excellent job of taking the helmets and making them game ready as opposed to The Revolution which cant be refurbished.

WE GOT THE DNA RECRUITS. vERYHAPPY WITH THEM...HOW CAN WE ADJUST THEM THOUGH. wE HAVE A FEW OF THOSE TWEENERS AND WISH WE HAD GOTTEN THE INFLATABLE KIND. wE COULD NOT AFFORD THAT THOUGH. aNY SUGGESTIONS BECAUSE SOME ARE JUST WOBBLY ON OUR KIDS HEADS.

Bruce....bout the best we could do with the foam padded helmets, was get oversized or different thickness snap-in side pads......then the kids would often wear some extra head cover, to take up some slack....not a heck of a lot you can do?

Schutt sells the larger and smaller front and rear pads for the DNA recruit. We ordered a dozen larger and smaller for the kids and only had two use 2 pads to resize helmets this year. That is two out of 170+ kids. We also had to order extra earpads and fit many kids with different sizes. We are also a brand new organization and the Schutt rep came in and measured every kids head and brought samples to fit every kid this year.
For our school teams we only use Riddell and it is easy to properly fit kids with the Revo IQs. However, our youth league went with the Schutt because it is a good product at a good price. Our school uses the Riddell's because they are easier to fit 250+ kids in grades 7-12 and also a good product.
