I have received some great material and advice form numerous coaches and do appreciate all the help. Though it is "very" close to the start of the '08' season, I am searching for a book (amazon, etc.) that explains a variety of offensive sets and plays. I see a lot of books on line, but limited to cash flow, so I would like your opinion. I seem to stick my foot in my mouth "at times" and a lot has to do with not being "some what" familiar with what I am attempting to talk about. I would appreciate your feed back. oghs9

The problem is that there are so many different systems, and variations to systems, that you will be hard pressed to find one book that talks about them at a level that you can fully understand it's individual pro's and con's. IMHO, your best resource is places like this, or websites that devote themselves to specific systems. On this site alone there are downloads to a huge array of systems. Even if you don't use any of them, it's not a bad idea to at least look at them so that you are familiar with what you are seeing on the opposing side. This of' course is the cheap solution and not very glamorous. Be careful with treating offense like a "pot luck" of plays from various systems too. Systems are designed as a whole and should be implemented that way. The best thing is to find one that you like, but more importantly, understand and know you can teach. This is a grueling and time consuming process, and if you are just downloading and reading, will not happen over night. It took me years to find a system that I liked, only to turn around and change it again to something I understood more a couple of years later. After 15 years of coaching, I just recently (last season) found a system that I'm 100% comfortable with (50% of the time).

Coach, you could try the " Football Playbook" by Sam Deluca priced very reasonable.

many coaches in your situation see different plays they like from one system to another. because of that haven't decided on what system to use yet. no prob, jot down all the plays your like and the formation you like them in, then play with different types of motions to tie all the plays together. keep the blocking rules simple and you'll be fine.

Series based football that hits all points of attack. A little of this and a little of that in youth football usually adds up to a whole lot of nothin IMHO.

Winning Youth Football highly recommended. First year coaching 7-9 we had our first scrimmage against our sister mighty mite team. Our jamboree got cancelled due to Faye. My staff was worried about the Single Wing but I believed. 3 possesions, 1 long sustained drive stopped at the GL due to two fumbles and poor play selection. 2 drive 22 wedge long td run, 3 poss 32 wedge long td run. The single wing is simple to teach and believe me my kids are hard learners. Even when we looked sloppy we were killing them at the POA just by sheer numbers. I was concerned about my wedge plays the defense runs Dave's wide tackle six they decided run the wing-t on offense. After we scored on the wedge they walked everyone up we wedged again and scored I heard the DC how can they break contain against an 11 man front. I said Coach that was'nt a sweep. He had 3 defenders tackle to tackle. I sure hope I see that Saturday We'll wedge em to death. Thanks Dave and Good Luck finding a book coach.
