I need some help and opinions on this one. Here's the situation: Have a big camp coming up this weekend. It's not a team camp, it's sponsored by Bob Sanders for all the local high school kids. Gonna have about 200-300 players there. I have been helping plan and all for the camp. Now I found out I will be in charge of the OL coaches and drills in the camp. We will have 4 40 min. blocks of time for drills.
I wanted to know what kind of drills would be good for this situation. I know how I would do it for just our team, but this is just a big camp with all different styles of offense represented. I know players aren't really coming to really learn a ton fo new stuff since everyone will be in summer workouts soon being coached up by their own coaches. I was thinking of doing some fundamental drills like our mirror dodge progression, stance start, punching bags, pass pro. Was looking for some ideas of what else to throw in. Like I said I don't want to get to detailed into changing kids technique any thing I should think of doing?

Coach, the best you can do are git offs are a priority, step on a block,rip-swim drills, footwork, staying low and flat, pursuit from backfield, pass rush protection, doubleteam concepts, blocking progressions like down-step,fire-step,reach-step,step-cup,some redirect drills ect. most of these drills will help kids get better. Rep as much as possible. Pad level is very important when it comes to attacking the defender might help if kids understand staying low is important. You could add pulling drills also....

COACH GO TO THE www.hawgtuff.net WEBSITE AND LOOK AT THE 2ND TAB FROM THE TOP LEFT WHICH IS CAMP SCHEDULE AND STATIONS DESCRIPTIONS.....THIS IS ALL YOU NEED. THERE ARE FOUR RUN STATIONS AND FOUR PASS STATIONS ...THEY ARE DIAGRAMED AND EVERYTHING. THEY WORK LIKE A CHARM PS YOU MIGHT WANT TO LOOK AT SOME OF THE LINEMAN CHALLENGE INFO TO! THE OLS AND DLS LOVE DOING THIS KIND OF STUFF. IT MAKES WORK SEEM LIKE PLAY. IT HAS DIAGRAMS AND EXPLANATIONS ALSO.

You're right, that is a great site. Coach, I've done many camps and unless you're billing yourself as a Wing T, Wishbone, Air Raid or some other Scheme "Specific" camp, your best bet is to go with general (sound) drills and have the coaches stress that "this is how WE do it but your coach may teach another way - ALWAYS listen to YOUR coach." That way the you don't put the kids in a bind and you don't tick off their coach.

THAT IS THE FIRST THING I TELL THEM DURING MY OPENING PRESENTATION AND WE STRESS THAT THRU OUT THE CAMP. WE EVEN TEACH SHOULDER BLOCKING INSTEAD OF HANDS FOR THE SHOULDER BLOCKING TEAMS. IT IS NOT REALLY THAT HARD BECAUSE WE GROUP THE HAND GUYS TOGETHER AND THE SHOULDER GUYS TOGETHER.

"Block of Time", that's a good one.
I just did a grid kid camp, and noticed what I could accomplish in individual time was a lot less than with high schoolers. For that camp it seemed to me that stance and steps (On, fire, reach) was a key part of the first day. As we moved on we were able to cover some individual blocks(drive or on and trap) and double team. However, if delaing with high school aged kids you may be able to get more into some combo blocks.
If I were doing the blocks and I ran the wing t, here is how I might do it. I am going to assume it is padded and the kids are of high school age: Block one Stance 10 min On step 5 min Fire step 5 min Reach Step 5 min Form and fit 5 Min (this can be done with hands and shoulders) Strike a blow 5 Min Drive block with on step 5 min
Block Two Stance and check 2-4 min Steps 8 min Form and fit and strike a blow 8 min Drive block 10 min Fire Block (45 degree step and block a man quarter shaded) 10 min
Block Three Stance 2 min Steps 5 min Form and fit and strike a blow 5 min Drive block 5 min Reach block 5 min Trap Block 8 min Gap plus trap 3 on 8 min
Block 4 Stance 2 min Down Block 8 min Gap Block 8 min Down plus trap 2 on 2 (for belly) 10 min Double team (Post lead no chip no scrape) 5 min Set-up Punch for pass block 7 Min
I left out zone blocking drills and pass pro. If you think there is too much in the stance and start period in the first three blocks some pass pro drills you may consider adding are: Set up Reaction drill Mirror drill Chop feet and recover One on one pass rush Five man BOB read the defense

Younger kids will require more time on stance, starts and strike. If the kids are in high school I think you could cut that way back.
