I believe he was home schools by his parents and in florida they allow home schooled kids to partisipate in school athletics.
seems like a good kid over all. I guess he is strong as an ox. I personally think the system he is playing in suits him but might not be the best at developing him for a pro team. still it is florida's job to win games and not develop pro qb prospects.

I think he is from AL, but I think your right about being homeschooled and allowed to play on a public or Christian school team. Greg

He played at high school ball at Niece? sp Florida.
I think Urban Meyer would like to have him shoulder much less of the burden running the ball and be more of a pocket passer.

I would love to see him in an undercenter option offense. Flex/spread option with some run and shoot. Oh, man. Greg

Was a home schooler who played TE at a small Christian school. Ended up playing at Nease HS amid lots of "recruiting" claims. No question Tebow is a heck of an athlete as well as being a fine young man.

speaking of shoulders.....
seems like about week 4 last year he started grabbing his.........if he continues to "shoulder" the load.....hahaha......i know...hilarious......he'll be hurt and won't be able to lift his arm above his head......
i know he's tough....but what happens when he goes down........a quarterback in a major college league can't survive much longer......it's like he rolls the dice each time he tucks it.....

He started out at Trinity Christian in Jax as a 9th gradere. he played DE. His other 2 brothers went to Trinity Christian also...wanted to play QB. but Trinity is a running team. Looked at several schools and picked Nease HS. Family rented an apartment in the Nease area he lived in and did his home schooling at. He actually lived in Baldwin , Fla which is 20 minutes from jacksonville...

Tebow looked very 'fresh' and refined in the Spring game. His delivery and feet appeared much crisper. I don't exactly know how this guy translates to the pro game, but he is a heck of a football player and his missions work (and girlfriend) is amazing. For a guy that "has it all" and is only getting better. What if he does win the Heisman (twice)..... Now what? I would've thought the toughest competition he'd have was Darren McFadden, being on a 'losing team', and being a sophomore,....and he overcame that - so what is to stop him from a repeat? Media backlash? Lets say he does win the Heisman - the guy seems focussed enough on a degree and football is a low priority in his life - what if he returns to Florida for a senior year?/

Where did the idea that QBs can't handle contact come from and why is it so prevalent? Tebow is as big as and bigger than lots of RBs who have to take the contact. I don't understand why everyone thinks that just because a guy plays QB suddenly he is more at risk for injury if he carries the ball.

He will also discover cures for AIDS, cancer, baldness, and develop a 7-man front that can stop the almighty double wing while round housing kicking both Mr T and Chuck Norris. (I just officially spun this thread out of control!)

I don't understand why everyone thinks that just because a guy plays QB suddenly he is more at risk for injury if he carries the ball. that might be because a Quarterback touches the ball on every play....and is at risk of getting blindsided randomly. Not saying that is a legitimate reason, but it is the added variable (extra potential devasting impacts)

you're asking a quarterback to take the punishment of a running back, take the punishment of a quarterback, and throw 20 to 30 yard strikes......
there is usually a reason the #2 is the #2.....he's either not fast enough, not strong enough, or not smart enough......
are you willing to put your sec season in the hands of "joe" tebow instead of tim tebow?
as long as tebow is healthy.....it's a genius move.....i respect that.......and maybe at a program like florida, meyer has 3 quarterbacks in waiting that are as good as 3/4 of the quarterbacks in the country.....
tebow certainly isn't a mover and shaker........when he runs he punishes defenders.....but he chips away at his armor each time he lowers that shoulder.......
and he's not playing against minnesota barber college either.......he's playing against tough opponents......and because of florida's success, it's like the other team's super bowl each week........
i think tebow is tough.......but you have to protect the position when you can.....
it's not about the risk of injury......it's about the risk of your team's success because your number 2 has held a clip board for 2 years......

he reminds me of Ron Mexico AkA MIKE VICK but for the good things. Ron could change a college game with his feet and his arm. I hope Mr Tebow can make a better tansition to the NFL then Ron did.

I'm not an NFL genius.
But I should be willing to say Tebow lacks a pro arm.
I STRONGLY believe he has two more seasons.........I don't care if he runs for 100 TDs and throws for 150 TDs, no one in the NFL is going to switch to the spread/SW offense.
Ergo, he is a great player without an NFL position.
Which is exactly the type of kid coaches should start recruiting. Get the kid that is talented, just not "NFL" proto-type, and have him for four years. A lot better than having a stud for 2-3 years, imo.
I think you'll see the same thing with Georgia Tech in the coming seasons.

Who cares if the kid has NFL ability or not?
The kid is the RAREST of combinations...superstar high school athlete who had HUGE expectations that were EXCEEDED while the kid keeps a level head and doesn't become a total jerkoff.
Good for him! Great story.

the guy is a big, thick running back that throws the ball. That last part, I'm not so sure about....I wasn't sure anyone could throw the ball uglier than Vince Young but if a girl could throw far....it would be delivered like Tebow does. As long as he gets the job done, I suppose that is all that matters (?), but being the most efficient passer may not be on the highest of priorities, because it seems to me they do all that they do to run first, and pass short, to set up vertical bombs of opportunity. Like I said, he looked much better in this year's Spring Game in throwing than he did during the season and last.

Call me crazy, but I think Tebow could translate into a NFL linebacker...as a Steelers guy, a outside Rush backer in the 34. Mike Vrabel for you Steelers haters. In regards to the NFL....a lot will depend on what happens this year. To me, (I LOVE Tebow...) but I see him as a bigger Scott Frost

I think he is from AL, but I think your right about being home schooled and allowed to play on a public or Christian school team. Greg He is from FL, near St. Augustine if I recall. Home schooled. His parent are missionaries. He participates too. On local sports talk they were talking about him being in the Philippines here recently and even assisting in some surgery, and circumcisions. He is a rare find in my opinion. A world class athlete, and he not only talks the Christian talk, he walks the walk. Jay Barker, QB of the 1992 NC Alabama team is another such "walk the walk" Christian athlete, though not blessed with near Tebow's talent. I do understand via hearsay that Tebow aint the brightest bulb in the box, but he can handle school and football well enough to stay eligible.

As for Tebow to the NFL...it's hard to say in the offense he runs if he has the tools. You hear different things about his arm stregnth. Some say cannon, others say he doesn't have all the NFL throws in him. Unless something catostrophic happens he'll be drafted high as a QB in my opinion.
As a runner, he's not got blazing speed, but he's strong, and somewhat elusive, but nothing like say Matt Jones (former Ark QB who is now a bust as a WR in the NFL) was...but they're different. Jones was tall, a little lankier, but did have legit 4.4 speed, and could make you miss in a phone booth, but couldn't throw the ball for nothin'. Tebow will lower his shoulders like a big FB. And he's big enough to take some punishment. IF he's not an NFL QB, then he might translate to TE, but I doubt it.

An NFL team SHOULD do this but none will: Draft him as a 'Tail Back'... Give him a 20-49 number... Buy him a T-shirt that says 'I am my team's Goalline and short yardage offence' just to make sure everyone knows your not running spread-SW in the NFL (as 'that would never work') run power-single wing in the red zone and score like a bajillion points and make it look like you're a genius...
