I really don't know what to say. I had to say something somewhere and here seemed like the best place.
I can't even begin to describe what he meant to me and our community. My former AP, AD, mentor, friend died tonight. He had a heart attack after playing basketball with some of my former players at a basketball lock-in. He got home, had chest pains, and he was gone. He was only 54 and in excellent shape.
I had to hear the stories about what he did just today. This morning the walked one of our best kids into school after meeting him at his mom's car and had his arm around him the entire way. He was playfully jawing with one of the kids about the upcoming Student-Faculty Basketball Game. He gave the track team a thumbs-up as their bus pulled out heading to the League Championship Meet. When a FB player from this past season told me that I about lost it...I did later on. This is the same stuff I saw him do everyday we were there together.
I will miss him. His favorite saying was BE ROSSVILLE. No one was more Rossvile than him, no matter how much we tried.
BE ROSSVILLE

Coach - some people sound like they have "got it". It sounds like your friend "got it". Sorry to hear about this. Stay strong for your players and school.

They had the viewing tonight. I have never seen so many people at such an event. It took us an hour and a half to get into his viewing room. The line was even longer when we left. My wife said it best when she said "Can you believe how many lives he has touched?"
Thanks again for the replies.
