Coaches, I'm planning on spending the summer away from home and was wondering what books over football and etc. would you suggest that I should read for the summer.
Offensively, highly interested 2 RB 3 WR (West Virginia) as well as Air Raid concepts. Also like to analyze defenses.

While this book does not deal with schemes, Teaching Character Through Sports: Developing a Positive Coaching Legacy by Bruce Brown is a short, absolutely amazing read. It deals with the right way to push players, how to develop a winning mentality, and all in all how to make kids into the best players they can be. Phenomenal book, plan to go through it again before this coming season.

"Wins, Losses, and Lessons" by Lou Holtz is excellent. "You Play to Win the Game" by Herm Edwards is very good. Whether you're a fan of Edwards or not, the book is an excellent read.

Teaching Character Through Sports: Developing a Positive Coaching Legacy by Bruce Brown is a short, absolutely amazing read. Great book! Also, "101 Zone Offense Plays" by Stan Zweifel. Deals mainly with one back sets, but is very detailed.

If you haven't read "Season of Life" by jeffery Marx, you need to read that one. Also the Tony Dungy book is great. The De La Salle one is a great one. Too many to count!!!

I am a big og mandino fan. His book The Greatest Salesman in the World is a great read if you apply the lessons taught. Give you a hint, it is not just for salesman. when you apply the ten scrolls you will change your out look on life.
another good book I think everyone should read is Success though a positive mental attitude by W. Clement Stone and Napoleon Hill. How to win friends and influence people by dale Carnegie is a wonderful book to help deal with parents.
I have never been really able to read football books. I am a visual learner so I learn best by watching videos.

Look through some of the "old" posts/threads on this board, copy them and put them in a 3 ring binder. You can search a topic or look up your favorite "experts" handle. There are some real diamonds.

kr7263...great idea! I've done the same thing with posts from this message board and with articles from AFM.
The Education of a Coach was a great book and was tough to put down.

I'll pretend like you mentioned it and say that I heard this one website... oh, I forget the name... I think it's smartfootball.blogspot.com wasn't too bad for printing out and reading when one has some free time. But that's just word of mouth, you know.

"A Sweet Season" about St. John's University under John Gagliardi is really good, and so is Frosty Westerling's "Make the Big Time Where You Are."

I've read a lot of the books that have been mentioned and they're good choices, espacially "Season of Life".
Here's one that won't help your coching a bit but is a good entertaining football book- "Breaker Boys". It's about the Pottsville Maroons, a small town team that won the 1925 NFL championship and had it taken from them. It's an interesting look at pro football in its infancy and early football in general.
Pottsville, I should mention, is about an hour from my original home in Pennsylvania and is the home of the Yuengling brewery, the oldest in the country.

To be perfectly honest I just reread the Coverdale/Robinson books, try to pore over Homer Smith's stuff, read some Bill Walsh and take time to think, and mentally experiment. Chris: Very nicely phrased.
