Just curious, what types of things would youth coaches like at a youth clinic. I have always tried to make it worth their time. Please let me know what would be helpful.

Just curious, what types of things would youth coaches like at a youth clinic. I have always tried to make it worth their time. Please let me know what would be helpful. I will not be able to attend but I could give a youth coach point of view. I played the game many years and thought that would translate into coaching. I couldn't be more wrong!! Give them a good organizational process for practice. Break it down for them. Monday is this, Tuesday is this, and keep it consistant. Maybe show what you do as a team. Provide drills that keeps everyone busy with minimal wait time. Kids 8-14 get very bored quickly!! Kids in HS have a least a basic understanding with the little things such as stance, responsiblility. Young kids come in fresh and eager to learn. I think it's important to take the time and teach them right. Alot of youth coaches go right into play calling. It's important not to forget the basics for the kids. If they learn bad habits it will be much harder down the line. Some issues I have: O-Line drive blocking without leaving feet. Hit with correct shoulder and seal. D-Line hands, hands, hands!!. Too many like to stand up and grab top of shoulder pads. LB-DB: Scrape technique, and proper angles RB: Be smart. Wait for blockers, use stiff arm, spin away from defenders helmet. Tackle drills daily. Play dummy down football. Work on drills to make the player better. Find about 10-15 plays on offense and practice them until they are perfect. One last thing. Once you have your team parentand coaches, keep it final!! Youth ball you tend to get parents wanting to help or worse stay 10 feet from practice. You want to try to distance yourself from the parents during practice. You can always talk later. If you don't you may have a parent baby the kid( say everyting is ok you did a good job) right after you told him to set on the sidelines for not listening or doing things wrong. When I do that I give the kid a couple plays on the sideline and then go talk to him. If the parent is there giving him a candy bar and gatorade it's hard to get my point across. If I was a new coach coming in. Organization, Drills for both sides of the ball, Basic plays with minimal passing Hope that helps
