To tell you the truth, I kind of wish he was actually holding a knife. I was a HUGE Husker fan until this moron got the job. Now, I can't stand to watch them. Hopefully they'll get rid of him soon so I can get my Nebraska gear out of storage.

Nebraska was stupid to fire Solich and hire this idiot. I was a huge Huskers fan until he got there. All Solich did was win...with class. One bad season and he was gone.

Blame the idiotic AD Steve Pederson for this embarassing display of "grid hideousness" over the past two seasons...Frank won 9 games in 2003 and was fired, two seasons after a National Title game appearance and two seasons after coaching a Heisman Trophy winner. That wasn't good enough for Pederson, who was hired in 2003. My thought was always that, after firing a coach who wins 9 games and is fired, then the AD should be FIRED if the next coach the next season does NOT win atleast TEN games. Pederson thought he could hire a guy who could do better than "only" 9 wins. When Nebraska put on a terrifying show of "pigskin patheticness" last season with no bowl game, Pederson should have been shown the door for his brain dead decision to fire Solich......Don't be fooled with this season, Nebraska struggled with U Maine(not even a 1-AA playoff team)in Lincoln in Sept., it was 18-7 Nebraska in the 4th quarter, 25-7 final score....

Since I coach in this state, and since I worked Big Red Football School for years (don’t anymore) I’ll offer my two cents. First, Callahan is not a bad guy, nor does he have a bad scheme. I do not have the same philosophy as he does, but I won’t knock it. There were a lot of rumors circulating around RE: Solich… the recent trouble doesn’t help that much either, but Pederson pushed Solich out without a plan- Callahan became the best available, but I question whether his system and approach is best for Nebraska football. I coach in a small (tiny) school… we do not often have DI kids, but we do have them. I’ve seen players this year who we played in the tiny school division who play and play well (Matt Ikes, for ex.). Nebraska does not have many QB/RB/Rec./DB types (Gale Sayers is an exception), but we have a lot of role players in this state who are eager to play that role. Eliminating the walk-on program will really hurt- 10 years ago players would walk-on at Nebraska rather than accept a scholarship at Iowa St. That is no longer the case and that will hurt this program. I also wonder why a “pro style” offense is such a sell- true, Nebraska really never had a big time NFL QB (David Humm, Vince Ferrigamo -sp?), but did have a lot of guys who went on. Plus, Nebraska usually obtained one of the, if not the best running QB in the nation. A QB who runs and wanted to play QB could go to the Service Academies, Rice or Nebraska. Now, a passing QB has choices like Miami (beaches, bikinis), USC/UCLA (same), Florida schools (same), etc. or Nebraska (blizzards, corn and cattle). I just don’t see Nebraska getting a top QB. Callahan is running his system- but Pederson fails to accept that this system and approach turn away Nebraska kids. Even Machiavelli warned of the weaknesses to an army by using mercenaries (perhaps he never read that). Marginal DI Nebraska kids would come to school, redshirt, play scout team, get their but kicked daily and then play Wide Receiver and routinely keep the force man 7 yards from the pitch back because they LOVED the HUSKERS and would do ANYTHING to play even a minor part in the continued success. That is lost now… and the 7-7 year did have something to do with that, but 9-3 (10-3?) the following year let people of this state know everything was back on track… until Pederson made a hasty decision without having a plan to make it better. The truth is Callahan was down the list as far as choices go--- Pederson talked too much about “big name” coaching interviews that when no one took the job and an NFL coach needed one- it was too tempting to be ignored by SP. Nebraska will compete (in the North anyway), but the mystique, the decades of dominance… that’s over.
As far as the throat slash, well, it probably shouldn’t have been done. I’ve done some things at games that I regretted outside of the heat of the moment. I bet accountants and lawyers do stuff like this too, but it goes unnoticed because no one really wants to watch them at their jobs.
sorry so long... blizzard, 2+ feet of blowing snow, no school all week... I'm getting a bit nuts (remember the Shining...)

whatareya, Nordic, tog?
I agree with Bluto's assessment....very fair and honest. I was a BIG Husker fan in the 80's and 90's. Some of my best memories was visiting the campus and talking with McBride and Osborne (GREAT guy)....I've seen the Husker-lite they put on the field now and it is such a culture shock. I've watched games off-and-on since Callahan got there, and still cannot stomach it. It's like watching an elephant do ballet. I think the offense is great, Cory Ross is a great back - but it's not "NEBRASKA" football. All the people I talk to IN Nebraska are fair and supportive of Callahan, but even when Nebraska struggled under Crouch in the final years of Solich, it was still NEBRASKA option football and an aggressive defense. Now, I don't know what to make of it.
I've seen the gif before, but I never understood what context Callahan was using it in....

Very Viking, But you have to earn it, have you raped and pillaged a small commmunity in Iowa or Wisconsin? Or.... went road hunting and blew up a porty potty with a 12 guage hanging out the car window while traveling 70 MPH on a loose gravel road in Western Pennington County (MN)? If you have done neither, you have not yet earned your horns or the umlaut. Yeah-betcha we have tough standards der den!
