now that i have your attention What are your team rules regarding such things? Do they differ from the school rules? Why do you think it is important/unimportant? I think I know what the general repsonse to this will be, just interested in how you guys deal with your policy being different from the school's?

Dangthat would hurt if the helmet got tore off.. I could care less as long as this freak could hit like he looks.. The mater of fact most of these freaks are either animals or quit after the first day becuase "JODI" tore their head off.

What are your team rules regarding such things? Do they differ from the school rules? Why do you think it is important/unimportant? This comes up every year in some way, shape, or form. We will have a kid or two every year who feels that they need to have a wacky haircut or some kind of piercing or a tatoo. I would prefer that the kids didn't do it because it's all about attention. When you have a kid with piercings, tatoos, and wacky haircuts, that kid tends to take attention away from the rest of the team. With that being said, we usually don't make an issue out of it. If a kid wears a piercing to practice, we make him take it off and if a kid has a tatoo, we make him cover it up. It's one of thise things, at least in my opinion, that isn't worth fighting about. It's a "pick your battle" issue for me.

Wow, that looks painful! But saw a girl in a fast food place the other day with one in her lip! I wanted to ask her if that hurt as much as it looked painful!!!!! They would have to take it all out to play/practice here anyway. Possible injury rules and stuff. I guess if their parents could stand to look at it and they take it all out before every practice and game, more power to them! Most of the guys on our team are into wearing these braided leather(Jimi Hendrix looking) necklace?? kinda things and every game at least one forgets to remove it and is sent off the field by the officials and I end up with 2or3 in my pocket, plus watches, bracelets and other stuff. They sneak over and give me all the plunder, cause I'm sure the Chief had previously told them to remove it all way back in the locker room!

Our kids are not allowed to wear peircings because we tell them its a safety issue.
Tattoos, we ignore. We try not to say a word to them about it. Thats what they want. So we just ignore it.

tog....something you might get your hands on is the "dress/appearance code" for players playing in the THSCA All-Star game. make that you appearance code. you justify it to parents/administration by saying "that is what is required to be named an all-star and we strive to get our players recognized as all-stars & play in this game."

the day of truly putting in the rules you want are over. we need to be able to "justify" the guidelines we place on our players. is it right? not really, but it is good practice to already develop your arguement when an administrator or a parent questions a rule.

tatoos we have never had a problem with. We just ignore them and move on. No jewlery at practice or games for safety reasons.

Our old rule was no jewlery during practice/game. Also had a Game day rule that we did not wear jewlery. I like Coach Huey's idea on dress code for all-stars and will use it if I ever return.

Piercings and Jewelry are not allowed on the field of course, tattoos, we wear long sleeve under armour, so you can't see any if a kids has any, I think we had one kid, his nickname is...Tattoo..Hair, it has to be trimmed, not saying buzzcut, but looks nice...

I don't mind the tattoos or piercings. I have tattoos, but as far as our players; we just don't pay much attention when we're on the field: as for piercing, as long as they don't have any jewelry on during practice or games, its all good!!!

hair, tats, rings, i don't care about any of them (as long as there is no safety issue). no offense guys but the old farts (i've worked for 'em) who are ultra rigid in their rules are just looking to create problems imho. i prefer to focus on the things that really are problems. rings and tats don't make you a bad guy. grades, drugs, fighting, things that get you cast out of society are bigger concerns to me, remember tats and rings are no longer frowned upon in general society. i'm not talking about the business world but who cares if a high school or college kid has long hair or a couple tats? as long as the other things in your team setting are in order, don't go looking for fights you can't win. but what do i know i'm just a hell raising outlaw myself, the team tends to reflect leadership, huh?

If you have guys who can take this kind of pain then you might wanna recruit them, the will be gangbreakers and go all out. If they scoff at having a piece of metal stabbed into various areas of their bodies then they can probably take the pain of a hit..... If you dont want them then send em to me and we'll make everyone pay!!.....LOL

We don't really care what a guy looks or dresses like at school. Most don't wear jewelery during practice or games, because they have figured out it is not comfortable. Our rule is that everyone must look the same in their uniform on game day. Black cleat, no spats, calf high white socks. I am in a very affluent area an most of our guys parents take care of the general apperance. We will have a guy now and then with long hair or some tats.

What about when a coach has tatoos that are visible? Do you ask them to cover it up or just let it go?

We just make fun of that tatos our kids get. Bust 'em a bit over them esp the two who had the word tatos on their triceps.
Funny story...HC is at our banquet talking about each seniors as they get their plaques and all that. Is describing our HB/MLB and how he a real throw back type player blahh..blahh...So the kid comes up to get his award with two of the biggest fake diamond stud earings in his ears. I could picture Vince Lombardi rolling over in his grave as a player is described as a throw back player with two huge diamond earings in.

No bling bling in practice or games. (State Mandated due to safety) Tat's = non issue for us, if it is vulgar, it has to be covered during games or practice
Neither bother me, as I was once a crazy college kid with tats and piercings. Still have the tats, but haven't worn any bling for a long time.
Hair = non issue
I "choose" to not fight this battle with them.

Hair - Not an issue as far as looks, etc. But, I've heard a couple of coaches say the restrict it because more hair makes could make the helmet not fit correctly. Is there a length/amount that could affect the fit of a helmet?

No hair coming out of the back of the helmet and no piercing during any practices or games. If they want to look like idiots, let them do it outside of the football team.
Tattoos- no one hear really has any. If they did, I probably wouldn't say anything, because its not like they can take it off.

Tatoos - don't care. Piercings - Take them out for practice and games. Hair - don't care In uniform you better look like everybody else. Same socks, no towels hanging out. No individuals on field. Off the field, you're on your own as long as you follow school rules.
