I want to have an "install" of some very basic football concepts and some of the more obscure ones to the players. Things that could make us Football Smart. There are plenty of things that sometimes we just take for granted that these kids just know because no one taught them.
A few ideas to address:
How many players need to be on the LOS Eligible vs Ineligible by numbers Eligible vs Ineligible by alignment
If you are injured go to a knee and teammates notify a ref. They will stop play.
First Touch rule on Punt Blocked FG's being live balls Possibly mention a Free Kick
I'm sure there is more and I am just starting to process what else could be added, that is why I am posting here. Anything else comes to mind, maybe something your players did that seemed common knowledge for you but in hindsight you wish you addressed.

The marks on the field and how far apart they are.

We have our first scrimmage the second Saturday after we start practice- so that Friday "pre-game" is dedicated to rules- mostly special teams and we cover a lot of unusual or obscure rules and/or situations:
Punt rules on first touch, blocked ball behind or in front of LOS, KO rules FG after Fair Catch FG vs. PAT block/ball advancement 2 pt. rules/situations (NFHS so if we are going to get tackled, get rid of the ball to a teammate... we've probably scored 1-2 times off of this each year)
Take S to waste time Take S to conserve time (and onside kick the free kick following the S) Eligible alignments and numbering (so we'll put in goofy O formations to defend) Timing rules (i.e gun goes off, game is not over until the play is over... saw my old HS lose a game due to the player not knowing the rule) 4 minute drill (first downs- do not score; i.e. up by 1)
Maybe 1-2 of those situations will come up each year, and even though we really only spend that day on it, our guys at least remember it enough that we have some awareness when we need to, for example, take 10 seconds off the clock and take a safety to preserve a win (which we did a few years ago).

Kids do not watch football games like we used to back in the day. They don't know anything. We taught victory formation on day 1 on Monday and we had about 20% of our kids that were like, "why would we just take a knee?". I'm having to teach more and more basics every year. It's wild.
We haven't even tried to teach the fair-catch-free-kick rule yet... their minds will melt. But I'm absolutely gonna cover it since we won a game on it 2 years ago.

I think you may want to consider how you specifically present that bolded portion. Always have to think about how some kids might interpret these things. I could see this becoming: Johnny Left Tackle twists his ankle while taking his steps in pass-pro. He feels it and goes to a knee, his buddies on the line see this and try and go tell an official, thinking he will stop play. All the while the play continues and there is nobody providing protection. Or Mikey Defensive End feels something wrong with his wrist as he goes down into his stance right before the qb starts his cadence. He immediately take a knee and his teammates on the front 7 all turn to notify the official. Sadly the ball is snapped while doing so, and the offense runs their play unopposed. Not writing thats what you are wanting them to do, but based on how it is shown there it could be perceived as such.

Like to do this contextualized around the situation.
For me, 2:00 and 4:00 offense…..what stops the clock?
Teach the rules in the context of when they need it during the game…..special teams Thursday walk through is perfect time for this.

After COVID I coached our MS FB team bc the coach quit the week before tryouts. We played on Thur. Every Wed was a "game day script" practice. Fake coin toss, KR or KO, sudden changes, talking to refs, running punt on and off, onside kick KR and KO. Shanked punts. You name it we repped it. We even took a half time and flipped the field at quarter breaks and stuff. I wanted them to at least leave understanding football a little more
