with that said, it isn't something that can be learned in a few talks imho

Learning the adjustments, counters and when to call certain stuff is not learnable in an off season. Learning how to run the 300 series is very learnable in the off season. As long as you have a contact that doesn't mind answering a few questions throughout the season I think you can implement this with a few talks.
