I don't think these are terribly similar. Marionvich was trying to create a "test tube" football player for future riches and glory. Baby Gronks dad is exploiting his child for social media wealth in the present. |

Gonna be a real bummer when he's 5'9 as a senior. Feel for him in the meantime because it's almost inevitable that there's some serious disappointment down the road for him.

Sorry, I have seen it on Twitter but have scrolled past it. Social media is a wasteland right now. If it wasn't for a few really good coaches and practicioners of football I would delete all my accounts so I didn't have be subjected to baby Gronk or whatever.

It is fairly ridiculous. I think the system should implement a clearinghouse and should become an "instant committable" system. Michigan offers a 12 year old, that 12 year old commits-- boom. He is yours Michigan. Turns out he isn't any good- OH WELL. Schools and recruits get the benefit of honestly knowing where they stand with each other. Guy doesn't want to commit when offered, that tells you something. School doesn't officially offer you, that tells you something. Makes to much sense for it to be implemented though. |

Here’s the likely problem for Baby Gronk: True social media stars are generally more hype than substance. The right video goes viral and they can ride that initial wave forever. They may have some talent but it’s usually more 1/100 talent than 1/10,000 talent. Other people with the same (or more) talent will never match the star’s followers because they won’t have the same exposure. There’s only so many bottles and lightning strikes in the social media world.
Baby Gronk’s world is different, though, from that of most social media stars. Eventually his competitors are going to have an equal platform to show the world that they’re better than he is - and if he’s not the real deal, he will be beaten out and forgotten. Same with Arch Manning. If he were Arch Cruise, Arch Trump, Arch Kardashian, or Arch D’Amelio, he would already be set for movie roles, C-suite positions in daddy’s company, an TikTok account with millions of followers, etc. But in football, regardless of his last name, he’s got to earn it.
That’s what I love about the sports world. At the end of the day, you have to be good to make it.

I saw the video of the dad coaching the kid what to say on the Juice podcast. Those podcast hosts almost disgust me as much as the dad for continuing to go forward with the interview. The enablers are to blame for this also.

The sad thing is that the kid will probably make a decent amount of money through social media “influencing” but judging by his dad that money will be squandered instead of going to the kids future |
